Subwoofer mounting in trunk

Every time I hear about a subwoofer I think of a boomboom radio that's rattling the guys trunk. Then he steps out with his sweats down around his knees and his boxers hanging out.

I seem to attract them when i go to the gas station. I heard the song about the marijuana smoking cockroach at the gas station yesterday. LoL...at least it was not rap.

I busted out laughing. Yeah, Im the same. I haven't gotten it in the '03 yet because Ive been working on my two-ways more but its on the list once I get my 1/0 wire ran to the trunk.
I did just put a small system in my work Sprinter. Just a 8" that sits between the seats. The cab was closed off from the cargo area before I got it, so its a very small area and it really works great!

Nah fam I love me some Dylan Schneider, Thomas Rhett, Devin Dawson, and Dan+Shay. Most people I match with on Tinder can't stop talking about Ariana Grande...

Well, I found my upstairs neighbor that's 3x my age on there, so I stick to Tinder LOL.

PS: Most guys on Grindr don't ask about cars, music or subwoofers... they just introduce themselves with pictures of things I didn't ask to see.

By looking at it this particular set-up....You may be correct. However....A Sub-Woofer & Amp doesn't automatically mean that the driver trolls gas stations being a Richard-head

No but seriously I just want my music to sound good since I spend way too much time in the car and that's about to increase - I don't want to rattle windows and set off car alarms.


I REALLY like JL components, IF yours are genuine....Good for you!

I only see 1 channel on a fairly large amplifier, If you didn't want OTHER people to ONLY hear the low frequencies of the music YOUR listening to.....Could have fooled me!!

I like my music at FULL RANGE at high volumes......Lamb Of God-Ashes of The Wake lives in my Camaro's CD player.

It's genuine just 10 years old lol. And that looks nice! Makes me want to just stick the sub into those little side areas like you did with a properly shaped piece of wood or whatever.

We don’t know exactly which vehicle he’s installing the sub in (he doesn’t say) but if it’s the Crown Victoria in his sig (it doesn’t look like a photo of the Escape), the fuel tank is located forward of the trunk, behind the rear axle, and between the rear wheels, and sits between the trunk and the passenger compartment. In such a vehicle, there must be a non-permeable barrier in the body structure between that tank and the passenger compartment. Panther platform vehicles do not have ski passages, are not SUVS, Station Wagons, a Hatchback, a Mini or Full Size van, and similar.

You can read the FMVSS by simply downloading it and referring to the UN / SAE / etc documents which define the standards and form part of FMVSS. Guessing and conjecture is not required nor the correct way to determine what the OEM could and could not do when delivering a new vehicle to the customer. Every State has it’s own vehicle regulations and those may also require adherence to FMVSS on all vehicles operated on a public highway.

Objecting to an informative post doesn't change the fact that rules exist nor is it useful to not make people aware of such rules, and such rules exist for a reason. If you want to modify the vehicle you should be aware of that reason so that you can insure your modification does not inadvertently create the issue the rule is designed to mitigate. For example in this case he could insure he inspects the trunk, perhaps lift the carpet covering the fuel tank, inspect the fuel filler, etc and check for fuel leaks or corrosion from time to time including rust on the trunk floor that may allow exhaust fumes to enter the passenger compartment via his sub port.

What sub "port?" It's a box, amp, and sub in a trunk.

Nothing about the car has been modified beyond a heavy MDF box and a few additional cables.

There are LARGE and I mean LARGE holes in the sheet steel that the seat back hangs off of, as well, there is actually a hole in the package shelf for a factory subwoofer among other cut outs. I dont think this is a problem.

I'd just use the same amp I already have. That subwoofer should fit on the shelf area above the gas tank or whatever you wanna refer to that spot is. I'm already annoyed with how my current setup is wasting 1/3 of my usable trunk space.
 
I had a sub and amp like that in the trunk and used some 3" wide velcro on the bottom of the speaker box to keep it in place.

Today everybody is streaming their music, or listening to heavily compressed versions...so who cares anyways? It would sound just as horrible on a $20 set of bookshelves or a $20k pair of towers.

i pay for spotify premium which has an option for "high quality audio" so i like to think my source material isn't total garbage
