Subway calls ‘emergency’ meeting with franchisees as sales plummet

Lots of quick food restraunts near me (radius 10 miles) have closed. Steak n Shake, White Castle, Burger King, Rolly Polly, KFC, Jack In The Box.

I am sure that I am forgetting some others. The only two chains that I would say are thriving are Chic Fil A, and Chipotle. There is also a Firehouse Sub near me, but I never see anyone in there....not sure how they are making it.

I do miss Quiznos and I personally knew one of their franchisees. They told me that the corporate folks kept putting them in the squeeze box by raising supply prices, but then making them keep menu prices the same. She threw in the towel, when they started shorting her on orders putting her in a further bad light to have to tell customers that they were out of popular items.

i guess i'm an outlier here. I love subway and eat it regularly. 6" chicken sandwhich on wheat is a quick decently healthy meal.

I believe one of the cheapest fast food franchises to get into, Probably reasons for that ;)
Chick Filet if you have the credentials is a home run. The will do everything for a little amount of money from you.
$10,000 upfront fee = instant success (when was the last time you didnt see 25 cars waiting in line for a chicken sandwich?

The current BOGO free footlong deal makes it a good price. I can get two Italian sandwiches for $11.

These days it seems like fast food isn't any cheaper than a locally owned sit down restaurant. I just don't see why anyone would go to these places anymore. Bad food, horrible ingredients and high prices. No thanks.
Agreed. Our local Texas Roadhouse has an early bird special of a 6 oz. sirloin, yeast rolls, and 2 sides (I get a salad and baked potato) for $13. Drink water and throw in a $3 tip and it's about the same cost as a hamburger combo at BK or McD's

Funny, I like Subway in theory but never eat there. I agree it just isn't that good.

Being a glutard I like the salad option. Still, I feel their food messes with my gut and I'm guessing it's a chemical or preservative in the meat (but can't prove it)

Ironically, I like their jalapeños. My wife says they're so consistent because they're pickled and she thinks they're disgusting.

Ironically, I like their jalapeños.

I get jalapenos on mine, and whatever the yellow peppers are called. I dunno, maybe they mask the flavor of the meat? I usually get turkey and ham and have no complaints.

I have a trip downstate tomorrow. Maybe I'll do Subway for lunch? On second thought.... Maybe not. Not if it's going to be $18. o_O

What gets me is they have a big pitcture on the wall of a sandwich that looks great…call” it “the jackhammer”. So you ask, “give me a 6 inch jackhammer”!

The server says, “what’s on that”? Reminds me to head to Arby’s

When we want a reuben we do the unthinkable and get a loaf of rye bread, pull the pastrami* out of the freezer, etc. and make reubens. Same for Philly cheese steak. For lunch today I will have sliced beef, slice of cheese and barbecue sauce on a Costco hamburger bun run through the toaster. There are lots of ways to eat a nice meal without having to pay as much as eating out costs.

I think it is people like us who are killing fast food. Fast food is still real good when traveling.

*I know, corned beef

Jalapeños, pepperoncinis and oil and vinegar are necessary to give the sandwiches any flavor.

Maybe that's what messes with my gut, but it typically doesn't on other foods. Their meat seems a little "fake" -- overly processed is probably a better term.

I like Subway but it’s too expensive. We have one about 30 minutes from our house that’s in a Pilot Truck Stop near where my dad parks his truck at so we go there and pay with his points. In my opinion Subway is so much better than Jimmy John’s, Firehouse and Jersey Mikes I can’t stand any of those places because they don’t toast the bread.
They do seem to have the truck stop market cornered. Truck drivers must be the only ones keeping them in business

When it was cheap for a mediocre sandwich I would go. Now it's expensive and the sandwiches still aren't great. I haven't been there since the $5 foot long days
Yeah, when I could feed both kids by splitting a foot long for $8, it was a pretty good deal. Got them to eat some veggies too. Now they want a fancy foot long each and its getting up near $30? I'm out, we are going to a grocery store or just having a quick snack until we get home. Fasting is good for you anyways!
