i planning to change the differential fluid on 09 MDX soon after break in. both front and rear spec for z1, and i hope to get to get some opinion here on using substitute for Honda ATF-Z1 in SH-AWD differentials (such as amsoil or redline) anyone know those 2 able to perform in this case? thanks!!

Not too soon! there could be wear-in modifiers in there (usually). Go a year.

I use Valvoline Maxlife High mileage ATF as a sub for ZF1 in the auto trans in my 98 CRV w 97432 miles. The car loves it and I love the price. It is formulated to replace the ZF1 app except for the CVT application. Valvoline MaxLife High Mileage ATF is a synthetic product so far so good. Also Mobil 1 ATF exceeds ZF1 except for CVT. I would use either one.

i will definitely switch out Z1 in the transmission, just not sure on differentials, SH-AWD is calling for Z1 as differentials fluid.

not all of them. the real-time(or vtm4?) awd on CRV, Pilot, Ridgeline is using dual pump fluid. the sh-awd on newer RL, TL, RDX and MDX need Z1 for differentials.

I just changed out my transmission and rear differential to Royal Purple Max ATF. I also changed my transfer case to Royal Purple 75w90. So far so good, the transmission is smooth as butter and shifts are seamless with the right amount of firmness. I have a 2009 Acura TL AWD.

ATF in a differential? Since when? If there is a ring and pinion in there I cant see adequate lubrication at those EP's. w/o a heavy S + phos add.

that is what i am wondering if RL D4 or Amsoil compare to Z1. indeed this is what Honda spec for all SH-AWD unit. i post the question on mdx.org and, reply and my own verification with handbook both in Z1 is what i need. pm me if you need the link.
what is differences between GL4 and GL5 in term of Hypoid?
