Sub STI's are very interesting

Heck of a stereotype burned in your brain.

Data? Proof?

Because I owned a WRX for 4+ years, not one WRX/STi person I knew fit this stereotype. Sure a few were young, yes they like to mod. But ignoring maintenance? Inexperienced? I'm calling this B poo-poo
At autocross there were no young car mod crazy guys with WRX's(maybe they broke them already?, just kidding). It seemed to be all professional middle age guys for who this was their toy car, not a DD.
The cars certainly aren't as abuse proof as a Mustang, but intelligently driven, they can be driven hard and not break.

As opposed to?... What will he 🎣 with a worn out and abused STI?

Most people don't need a manual, they think they want one. Until they burn out the clutch, grind down some gears, mess up some synchronizers, or perform the ultimate... money shift.
But many people do want a manual transmission. I got 246,000 out of my geo prizm. Two clutch changes, replaced the gear oil and brake pads. I never needed to replace synchros, and the gears will typically last the life of the vehicle as most are built well enough to last.
