Stupid New Car Names and Editions !

Yeah but you know the reason they had to back them with 100k warranties was because they fell apart. You don't see companies that manufacture quality vehicles do that. Chrysler probably started it with their 7/70k warranties when their cars were bad.
Seems the tide has turned for Hyundai/Kia

Hey, my first car was a Gremlin. Silly name, yes, but it was a great little car. 4.2L straight six, very torquey and fun to drive. I put 100k miles on it with zero issues of any kind. I maintained it but not very well lol.

Old urban legend, I understand. "No va" is two words, whereas the car's name was one word. And I'm pretty sure GM, with its great resources and reach in those days, would have researched extensively and group-tested the name in other markets besides the U.S.
Nova is “new” in portuguese and also serb/croat

My Yugo would go 100mph no hands on the wheel with 3 passengers - senior engineers- ask them.
Ferrari designed engine - and a GOOD one.

Yugo is a contraction of the former Yugoslavia.
It is an Unfortunate name, in reality Made by Zastava** just a FIAT 12x series 2 door made from old tooling.

Blame DeLorean for the name, He may have been flying high on his "imported product"

**I think Zastava is making some Transmissions and Engines for VW now.
You modified a Yugo? Top speed stock was 86mph.

The problem with those types of surveys is that they're somewhat limited. They'll lump an engine problem in with a loose seat or trouble with the entertainment system. And it's per 100 cars so does one car with 1.2 problems per car in the last 12 months really tell you anything about long term reliability when all those cars are less than 3 years old?

I believe the survey in 2021 is how 2018 models did 2018-2020.

I believe you are thinking of the initial quality survey

However, I don't know if they weight various problems, such as an annoying head unit doesn't prevent one from driving to work, while an engine failure does.

They do note in the press release,

“Today’s three-year-old vehicles are of higher quality and more dependable than in previous years,” Sargent said. “Most owners aren’t experiencing their vehicles breaking down or falling apart but, for many, vehicle technology continues to function poorly or inconsistently. If an owner can’t rely on a system to work as they expect, it is also considered a lack of dependability. It affects their overall view of the vehicle and their likelihood of staying loyal to their automaker. In the future, dependability will partially be determined by the ability to solve problems through vehicle updates and the avoidance of technology obsolescence.”

No, I'm specifically referring to the one you mentioned. Their metric for determining dependability was in the last 12 months on a 3 year old car. Initial quality is even worse, I think that one refers to problems in the last 3 months. Main issue with things tend to pop up in the 50-100k range. That's when your alternator/suspension and other mechanical parts will go. That JD Powers dependability will tell you nothing about those as those don't typically fail in the first 3 years.

Gladiator. Makes me smile. I keep thinking what were other considerations? Barbarian, Assassin, Killer, Mercenary, Slayer, just bored, take no offense. I like the Gladiator, the movie too.

Why is the hitch ball upside down? I see that it used to have CB antenna (or similar), can see the remains of the mount on the.. hatch area, looks like that portion doesn't actually move up, only the glass.

I like the 4.2 Liter badge, this would have been around the time of the push for metrification, no?
