Cops are hired to deal with problems, if there were no problems there would be no need for cops.

If a punk with a gun and badge can't deal with a person getting out of their vehicle at the wrong time, then that cop should go get a job he is more qualified for, like Walmart Greeter.

The video only works if his overheads are on...At least thats how it works here.

Not to be the monday morning quarter back here, but the EMT should have kept going. Medical necessity outweighs the cops desire to pull the ambulance over for a traffic violation. This can be dealt with after the patient has been transferred to a higher level of care at the hospital.

There are always going to be rogue cops like this when all thats required is a GED and a drivers license. Becoming a cop is about as easy as it get's. Extensive psychological testing and a good backround will weed out 90% of these hot heads that have something to prove.

It took you how long to figure out that they're human, with all of the failings that humans have?

Yes. No reason to stop at all. The cop could have followed him ..or not. For that matter, the cop could have served him his citation at the ambulance barn.

Even when it went to court, you would have to be one corrupt magistrate to not throw out any punitive charges on the citation (failure to stop).

There can be more to it too. For all we know that ambulance driver had a habit of yahoo'ing it even for routine transports (something where alleged "advanced life support" was in use - but no "life threatening" condition existed) and this cop had already complained to the ambulance company's management about it.

I have no respect for them

And yes, I am a white collar medical professional. Truth is truth, doesn't matter who or where it comes from.

Thank you! I feel the same way. I have to deal with HPD and those guys are crooked. It's not just in the movies. I can only hope that once in a cop's life they're put in a position of pure vulnerability, dependent completely on the mercy of another person. That would help them, I think, to empathize with the people they put in that situation on a daily basis.

I don't limit that to cops. Empathy is an acquired thing. I think everyone should take "outside of your personal existence bubble life experience boot camp" so that they can not only relate to.. but identify with those who are subject to their power and influence. It's only then that you can truly weigh the sensible greater good of your impact upon others.

I'll say that most cops I've come across have been cool with me if I was cool with them. Now, there are complete morons in every line of work so cops like that will always be there. I have a few friends that are cops and always ask them about situations and what to do in them.

As for that OHP officer, he's one of the morons. If my mom was in that ambulance I would have gotten in while they were fighting and driver her to the hospital myself. Then dealt with the consequences later.

I do agree thouogh that the ambulance driver shouldn't have stopped in the first place. What's the cop going to do if he keeps going.... NOTHING. If they did do something..... could you imagine the new story about police using stop sticks or the pit maneuver on an ambulance with a patient in it headed tot he hospital? I don't think any officer no matter how dumb would do anything like that.

This reminds me of a recent Maclean's "The End" article. An RCMP officer was killed in Alberta in May after pulling a U-turn in front of a grain truck. It seems he got a little too excited about catching a speeder to check for oncoming traffic.

When you spend all day, everyday on the road you're bound to have the occasional accident. Nobody is perfect. I won't comment on the other ridiculous statements made in this thread.

I understand that. Nobodys perfect and we have all done a bonehead move like he did.

It's the way that he handled the incident that irked me. I'm pretty easy to get along with and if he had pulled me over to check on me or to say "sorry" I would not have cared. I'm sure I would have cracked a joke about being late to the donut shop.

Or even if he had not done a circle, just took off the other way.

But to pull me over and treat me like a 2nd (or 3rd) class citizen after he nearly caused an accident was uncalled for.

In late to early 2000/2001 I was driving through North Haledon NJ and was driving my Jeep Wrangler at the time. It was wet from snow/rain that night and was approaching an intersection while the light was GREEN. As I passed through the intersection it had turned yellow and I noticed a cop car about 6 cars back on the road to the right waiting for the light to obviously turn green. I was going 35mph, which is the speed limit for the area and it was roughly 12:30/1AM.

After about 2-3 miles of driving that same cop pulled me over. When he walk's up to the window I ask him if I was speeding or did something wrong, he gives me the cold shoulder and asks for my license, reg and insurance. I ask him again as I am handing him the necessary documents and he states I ran a RED light and could have caused an accident. At that point I told him it was green, by the time I was 3/4 through it turned yellow, there was no way, no how I could stop before going through that intersection and if I did attempt to stop I might have slide due to the road conditions.

He didn't care, and sure enough I got a summons, his words were "you can try to fight it, but either way you have to show up to court". So after 3 delays and eventually getting to a court room. He stated he was parked at a gas station, the ticket itself stated it was "fair/good visibilit weather". Stated I was driving recklessly and ran a red light. He initially had pulled me over thinking I was "intoxicated".

Before hand I'd actually went and pulled the weather for that evening and printed it out. I testified that the weather was not fair as the ticket had stated, and that I was not intoxicated he had followed me for several miles and then pulled me over for going through a green/yellow intersection light. He stated it was red, was not providing me the details of the pull over etc.

The judge gave the verdict that the officer is TRAINED and is capable of observing details that people in general are otherwise unable to, they went with the officers report even though I had a weather report etc. I then went up to the judge and told him i'd pay extra for an alleviation of points/forgiveness which he accepted. $78 dollars later I was forgiven, no points, no insurance premium.

It's amazing how they get away with things, I have family in the police department and I know there are many good cops, but there are some that just give them a bad name. I was and still am quite [censored] about it.

You have every right to be upset from what we have heard. Make a complaint. Its these bad apples that give us all a negative reputation. Police officers don't like those type of guys any more than the public.

A couple of months ago while driving to work, I wish I had a camera with me. Some high school kids had a van parked along side the street and they were selling Krispy Kreme donuts as a fund raiser. There were two cop cars stopped by the van and two cops were buying donuts at the same time. I know they always get to hear the donut jokes, but this was a classic.
Seriously, there was an Elmer Fudd/Bugs Bunny cartoon years ago that had a truck full of hats drive overhead. The truck door opened up and all the hats blew out. The two characters became whatever hat fell on them. That is the trouble with a some cops. Once they wear the hat and put on the badge and gun, they are a completely different person, usually turning into a pr*ck. Power corrupts, especially in the police occupation.

...just think of all the times you got away with stuff and didn't get caught. That may give you some consolation.
