Stopped by a really nice cop

That's because he already knew who you were, and that you had no wants or warrants. SOP is to run the plate on any vehicle they stop, or that they encounter that is stopped in unusual circumstances.

The thing is in that particular situation they COULD NOT have known who I was, even though I did hear him call in the plate.

I have a Kentucky Historic Motor Vehicle tag registered for the vehicle. I carry the HMV plate in the car, and display a 1970 Kentucky license plate on the back. This is perfectly legal under Kentucky law-I'm permitted to display any legible Kentucky tag older than 25 years old. I'm not required to register or otherwise make anyone aware of this tag, and in fact I've been meaning to change it for one from my home county.

In any case, as soon as this particular officer approached the car, I pointed to the HMV tag on the passenger floor and said that was the legal tag, but he brushed it off as if he didn't really care-he was more concerned about getting me off the street.
