Strange Champion omission

Champion makes the Bosch Premium, Mobil 1, and K&N oil filters. None of these lists a filter for the common Ford 2.0 liter DOHC Zetec engine (VIN code 3 in Escort ZX-2 and Focus; also used in Escape), though the related 2.0 liter SOHC SPI (VIN P) is listed. My local Wal-Mart doesn't have a cross-reference booklet for the SuperTech filters, also made by Champion, but I suspect this is true for these filters as well. After my curiosity got the better of me and I had problems sending an e-mail to K&N, I confirmed with K&N by phone that it does not have an oil filter for the Zetec.

My question is, why would Champion skip this particular application, especially since the majority of new Focuses now use this engine? Ford is pursuing the sport compact "tuner" market, and Champion is missing the boat by not offering high-performance filters for this engine.

I bet that the one that they offer for the other vin code fits and works.

Yes it does fit but I'm not sure if it really "works."

The DOHC Zetec motor calls for the 14 PSI By-Pass Valve, the SOHC SPI one - 8 PSI By-Pass

it is stilla fairly new engine IIRC, so give it a bit of time, they will all make filters for it eventualy.

It really works. Just think of the engine wear that doesn't occur with more oil pressure in the engine.
The filter is pretty big for a 4 cylinder engine and shouldn't be a problem. If you have extra room in there, you might even want to consider one of the oversized filter options.

Bypass is rarely a single number but usually a hopeful range depending on manufacturer assembly line qualilty control.

There is a Champ "PH2005" that fits your application. Just paint it to look like any filter you want...

Well Champion Labs is mention all the time. I think the reason they might have been omitted is because they do not sell a filter with the name Champion on it!IF such a beast is available I have never seen it.
