I have looked at the STP site several times recently and see no mention of STP filters only chemicals. I know Champ makes the filters but has STP sold the filter business and name to someone else?

I was wondering the same thing. Seems strange to me. They dont want to promote one of their product lines? I have no idea if they're any good or not. Do a search on STP oil filters, not much comes up. Can't even find a cross reference listing for their filters on the internet. It may be out there somewhere, but it's not easy to find. Just a few years ago you could find STP oil and air filters pretty easily in auto parts stores, they don't seem to be as widely available anymore. I haven't looked recently, maybe no one sells them anymore?

From the Champion Labs web site:

quote:

Champion Laboratories, Inc. has been part of several different parent companies, but perhaps no pairing is as famous as when STP Corporation and racing enthusiast Andy Granatelli acquired Champion in 1970. Gaither and Granatelli formed a hugely successful partnership that resulted in expanded business opportunities.

Apparently Champion kept rights to the STP name for filters while the chemical business went elsewhere.

Auto Zone recently did a free after rebate on STP oil filters. In March, I will disect mine to compare it to the ST 3950's I have been using.

I don't know about the STP oil filters, but the air filters are sourced from throughout the world.
I've seen some very high quality STP air filters sold through the AutoZone chain that are of the comparable or even better quality than the more expensive Puralators or Frams.
And few of those STP's looked exactly like the OEM filters for some Japanese brands, at a fraction of the cost.

Last STP air filter I bought for my wifes KIA, was a reboxed China made FRAM. Well made filter though.
