AAP has been running a FAR promotion for STP's Multipurpose motor treatment. I got two bottles, and will buy another one this month. I wonder what to actually do with this stuff. Would it make sense to use it as a gas supplement when filling my tank with generic brand gasoline?

(1) By generic brand fuel, I assume you mean non-tier one gasoline.

(2) You buy the "stuff" and then wonder what to do with it?

(3) What application do you intend? Engine? Mileage? Oil & OCIs, etc. etc.

(4) Are you familiar with Seafoam, its application and supposed benefits?

(5) Why not just save the purchase price of the "stuff" and purchase tier one fuel?

Short version: I'd suggest that adding a retail bottle o' juice to a tank of generic gas won't make up for using a non-name-brand gasoline (not that all generic gas is of poor quality), but if you're mainly concerned about detergency, etc., I guess this couldn't hurt. Personally I'd never use any of these additives on an every-tank basis.

Forget the fuel additives unless they are Techron (polyetheramine) based. Most fuel is already E10 and the alcohol does a lot of cleaning by itself.

I would not use it by the bottle for every fillup. When in doubt, follow directions.

I've only used it as a flush.....the pint added to the crankcase prior to an oil oil.....and it made the oil come out extremely dark....whereas, prior to the change, the dipstick was at least translucent on the dipstick....

So I think it helped clean some gunk
