Stp extended life oil filters

The STP filter is not even close to a Fram Ultra. In the oil filter postings there are some pictures of the STP filter cut open,I would guess it is comparable by its looks to a Fram Tough guard at best.

The blue stp or the extended life?

I only asked because price is similar. I'm not looking to change.

STP Extended Life is Korean [censored]. Priced like a Fram Ultra but nowhere near as good! Despite what it says on the box, it's not even made by Champion/Fram (confirmed by Motorking)! Everyone seems to guess it's a Purolator.

Just because it is from Korea doesn't make it junk. It's a good alternative to those who refuses to use FRAM for whatever reason.

Problem is, with no idea who builds it & no info whatsoever about it, it's way overpriced compared to Wix/NAPA Gold, Fram Ultra or TG, or even M1 filters. Big question mark, too much coin (unfortunately a common AutoZone issue).

I was just in AutoZone today, and was taking a look at the blue STP ecore filters. The latest STP ecores have a 96% percent efficiency rating while the older ecores have a 93% efficiency rating. I asked the manager if the 93% STP filters were old stock, and he said yes. But yet they were the same price as the new stock.

Anyway, I looked at the STP extended life while I was there, and it was over $9 for my car. The heck with that. I can buy a USA made Fram Ultra for $8.99, or I can buy a USA made PureOne or Bosch Premium at the same AutoZone for about $7.

The last AZ manager I had an oil filter conversation with tried to tell me their blue STP's were made for them by Wix.

I guess you really can't blame him. With the hundreds or thousands of different parts that he has access to (face it, an oil filter is just another part) and with management changing suppliers all the time, it's no wonder that they can't keep track of who builds their oil filters that week.

I just opened a couple boxes to look at them today at AZ, for my application an Audi 2.0T, the Bosch $18.99 filter and $8.99 STP Extended Life were the EXACT same made in Korea filter. Guess what I bought?

FYI this search was prompted by my go-to Fram recently going from a Made in Germany filter, which was identical to the OEM Audi filter (I think it was a Mann), to a Made in China which is identical to the blue STP. I think due to the low sales of this model filter there is a lot of production overlap between brands.
