Still seeking Mobil 5000 users

I think many shy away from it bc of the sodium. That and when you have Havoline that has done very well..there are very few takers for Mobil 500.

Seems to be alot of people on here that really like mobil's products. Even though some of them are using mobil synthetic and blends I cannot imagine there conventional oil being that bad. I have used exxon superflo since 1999 in 2 or 3 vehicles with no problems. Same company as mobil. I am sure the oil is different but exxon is considered their lower end oil and I would think the mobil 5000 would be superior to it. Can't beat 2 bucks a quart for exxon superflo though.

Bingo. That's exactly why lots of people don't use it. Superflo is cheaper and still gives very good results and has a pretty good backing on this forum. Sure you don't get the exact same formulation as the M5000, but that's because Superflo isn't advertised as a "guaranteed 5000 mile oil", and thus doesn't contained the advertised "extra goodies" that are in the M5000. If I didn't have a GM 3400 gasket leaker then I'd run it IF I found it at a good price (like Autozone has a special 5qts plus an STP filter for 10 bucks). But I don't want to skew any UOA's with it in the (hopefully) unlikely event something happens to my intake gaskets. It's a fine oil, but why pay for that advertised 5K OCI when most dinos nowadays can go that far and are less expensive...

BigHead,

Be patient, sometimes Kmart has Exxon Superflo for $1 per quart on sale. If Kmart is out, take the Kmart sales flyer to PepBoys and they will price match *any* current (non expired) sale ad on motor oil.

I did use Mobil 5000 when ExxonMobil had that free offer 2 years ago. I used it in my wife's Honda and I could not tell any difference in the way the engine ran or gas mileage. I didn't change it at 5K miles, it was more like an 8k OCI.

I have been using it in my motorcycle, a suzuki vx800 twin, because its a good quality dino 10 w 40, which is whats called for by the factory on it, I have also run it in my crx, but swapped that one over to trop artic since discovering this site, we have it at walmarts up here in portland, I have been pleased with the mobil clean 5k, no problems and its seems to smooth out my shifts on the bike which uses the oil for both motor and transmission, the mobil or exxon oils are good as far as I have seen. I used to run chevron all the time but its too expensive now, rather get the trop artic for $1.48, ****, even the supertech is $1.38 now, so the trops a steal.

I've got the Mobil 5000 in my 1996 Neon right now. Have about 300 miles on it and have seen no decrease in mileage at all. I don't have a problem with it.

I dont think the Clean 5000 10w40 is doing so well in my area. Its priced 2.07 a quart on clearence at my local walmart. I would buy some but my car is speced for 10w30.

Well, I have some 5w-20 in my wife's van, but can't really comment since it is mixed with 1 qt of Mobil 1 0w-20 (SL) and 1 qt Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20. I would have no issues using it straight, this is just what I happened to have lying around.
Also, as others have said, a little pricy compared to several alternatives.

I have 5w30 in a Chrysler van with 15k & a '97 Camry with 54k. No complaints. Been doing ~3.5K OCI's. It is strong-smelling oil and always comes out black out of both vehicles.... hope that means it's cleaning & not sludge.

I will pick the remaining bottles up this friday when I go there for a few other things. Heck, any reason to justify buying more oil is a good thing in my book! And at 2.07 for a good oil, thats hard to turn down. Esp considering the price of the cheap ST brand is climbing so fast anymore.

I was happy when I landed a deal on the "Cars" branded box of valvoline. 7.50 for 5 quarts. They are selling it for 2.48 a quart on the shelf now....

$2.07 at wally world around here also, so I may just have to start me a stash. I guess i got a better deal than I thought I had. Other cool thing about the clean5k, its big mouth, so it drains quickly.

I have 5 qts of Clean 5000 5W-20 just waiting until the next change is due in my '99 Taurus hoopty (next weekend). I plan to run it the full 5k unless something weird happens to make me change it sooner, then I'll probably use the 5 qt jug of MC 5W-20 I bought just to have.

I used a lot of Mobil Drive Clean 5/30 when I could usually get a good deal on it at K-Mart. Since Mobil 5000 has been introduced, it has always been priced way above average for dino oils and I have not used Mobil dino for some time. I have Mobil 7500 in one car right now, but I was able to buy Pennzoil Platinum for less than Mobil 7500 so PP is going into it next oil change.

I had no problems with Mobil dino oil, it just became overpriced.

I've been using it in my girlfriends 01 cavalier, because it's usually on sale and cheaper than regular valvoline. She runs a lot of highway miles. I usually will run it 6k.
