Still driving my 1996, bought new in Dec 1995, Ford Contour with the 2 L Zetec & 5 sp manual, my poor man's BMW

. It's been a great car, fun to drive & reliable. It has around 86,000 miles and except for rear struts & a battery @ 8 years the rest was maintenance, fluids, brakes and a timing belt/drive belt service with wp & belt tensioners. The car has been garaged for the winter since 1998 so it's rust free.

It's not worth anything used but it's worth a lot to me. Since 1972 I've always bought new and kept my vehicles for a long time. The "newer" ones have been kept longer. Maybe it's a sign that "newer" vehicles are made to last longer if you care to maintain them decently.

Good point. My dad had a 1973 Bronco and a 1974 Maverick and both had rusted out rockers by 1978. In contrast, my 1999 Wrangler looks brand new. My 1975 2002 needed significant rust repair as well while my 1995 318ti is rust free.

I still have the 1982 Cadillac Tony bought new and it stays in the garage (8,500 original miles). There is a picture of it in the photo section under Winter in Arkansas (post # 702066). I drive it once in a while. Both the grand kids want me to give it to them. We gave a '68 Mustang and a '72 914 Porsche to our son and he sold them 4 years ago. He could no longer maintain them as a result of health problems. I drive my 2000 Mazda 626 all the time now.

I have a 2005 Impala that is "new to me". It was sold at my dealership new and was a one-owner vehicle. With only 23500 miles, the first owner was putting about 4k miles per year on it. He purchased it in January 2005. I will be putting about 3k miles per month on this vehicle (150 miles per day). I got a great buy on this vehicle. I plan to run it until it dies. Will probably use the Oil Life Monitor as my guide to OCI's running Pennz Platinum or Mobil 1 synthetic.

My Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a 2001 model has almost 167K on it. Outside of normal maintenance plus replacement lower ball joints and tie rod ends the #1 problem has been rear diff. Including the OEM I am on #4. Drive shaft has been replaced and balanced. Motor (4.0L SOHC V6)and transmission (5R55E) have been faultless. Some rust is forming on the back of the cab on both sides. It should see 250K. I have no reason to sell it. Has held up a lot better than the three (3) S-10 Blazers that I had.

Very nice!!!

I have an 2000 CRV I bought new which now has about 56k miles on it. I take very good care of it and I figure it could easily go another 20 years! ... I doubt I'll be around in 20 years. I also have a 2004 Ranger I bought new and it has a whooping 16k miles on it. I really think I -could- go the rest of my life with these two if I chose to. I'm 60 yrs old right now.

Great topic. I traded in my new Toyota Tacoma in April 2004, on my 2004 Ford Ranger, its the longest ive kept a vehicle new or used. Coming up on 7 years and 44,xxx miles. My 04 RAnger is such a nicer all around truck when compared to the 02 Tacoma I traded in

My wife bought her 1998 Corolla 4 speed auto in November of 1997. I now use it for work and as a second car. I put about 22,000 miles a year on it. It only had about 20,000 miles on it when we got married in late 2000. I started using it for work around 2003 or so. It now has 194,000 miles on it and still drives like a champ. The only thing replaced on it so far, other then the routine stuff, has been the starter. It's throwing a CEL, but that is for a bad EVAP vapor canister. I'll probably change it when the weather gets better. It can also use some new struts. It averages 37 miles a gallon. It has no leaks of any kind and doesn't consume any oil. I hope to put another 100K on it, but we shall see.

We still have our 1997 Chevy Venture minivan we bought new as soon as our son was big enough to open the side door and get in. He graduates from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in May.

It had the infamous GM 3.4L intake manifold plastic gasket leak in 2004, a few months after their coverage for that defect expired. I think I talked them into paying half the repairs anyway.

Replaced the spark plugs and wires at 100,00 just because. A little AC work. Two belts, a water pump and a brake slave cylinder. That's about it.

Still our daily driver with nearly 130,000 miles, 20-27 mpg, run like new and still looks good considering it has sat outside in the Texas sun everyday since 2006. AMSOIL throughout since 2004. Oil and filter changed once a year.

Hope to keep it for another 10 years to best our 1983 Chevy Van that we kept for 23 years. But my wife has been looking at convertibles, and I'm interested in a short car that will fit in our motorhome's garage. Anyone know of a 10 foot convertible capable of West Texas legal 80mph? Off road capable would also be nice.

I bought the vehicle in my signature about a month ago. I plan on driving it into the ground while maintaining it best I can. I drive just under 20k miles a year (a lot of highway) so I can hopefully get at least 10yrs/200,000 miles and more out of it.

Bought our son a new 1998 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 6 cyl and this year he gave it back to me. I keep the top off and have it garaged so it is an instant convertable any time I want one. Only 107,000 miles on it. We ran 5-50 Castrol Syntec and the orange cans for years till I joined BITOG in 05 and now run 5-40 Shell Rotella Synthetic with Nappa Gold filters. I only drive it a few times a week but love every minute behind the wheel.
