Glad you are OK!

Its noteworthy Rita and Ike brought sustained 100+ MPH winds to SE TX, and the media didn't even notice. When we got hit 3 times (Humberto cat 1 also), the media ran endless stories about New Orleans Katrina. Go figure.

We know who the media stooges wanted to hurt politically.

But unlike the N.O. folks, we dug out the power equipment and as the last gusts were still blowing, our chainsaws and tractors roared to life. We cleared our roads and yards (and our neighbors roads and yards) and picked ourselves up instead of demanding government handouts and placing political blame. SETX had some of the hardest working, self sufficient people on earth. Hurricanes? Bring 'em on. We will win.

Glad to hear that you are ok. Total destruction on your property? icky. Hope it's not so bad that it can't be fixed vs rebuild. Friend of mine in WV had snow!

P.s. generators make the world possible.

Let's not be smug...some of those NO folks had 20 feet of water at their house...there was nothing left but an empty lot to come back to...

If you had nothing but the clothes on your back and an empty lot, you would be doing nothing...

It's easy to be smug when you just had high winds, or the storm surge stopped short of your house and left it standing.

I am 100 yards from the water - we often get severe flooding...and I take nothing for granted...I have plenty of tools, plenty of resources, but were I to come back to an empty lot, there would be little to do but call my insurance company and start working on food and shelter...

It's good to know you're ok. I hope you're able to get the damage cleaned up without too much trouble.

Hogwash. Hurricanes Rita and Ike were all over the news for a few days.

yes, here in PA we didn't get nearly as bad as NY and NJ. we never lost power except for a few seconds.
during the storm, we heard crashing outside our windows; it was slate tiles being ripped off my neighbor's roof! one of them cut a window screen. lots of her slate in my yard the next morning.
the top half of a neighbors tree in the yard came off; the same tree we warned the utility about a few months ago. they had come and trimmed a few branches, THEN one of the guys hands my wife his card for HIS company, and how he would be glad to come out and trim the rest of it for us (for a hefty fee of course)!
no thanks, hurricane Sandy took care of it

Smug? Not at all. Its fact. If anyone does not believe there is a HUGE contrast in storm response from the populations of the greater N.O. and SETX, you are sadly mistaken. Many in greater NO could have returned to clean up/rebuild (like we did), but they were bussed to Houston and other parts of TX to live off the Gov't. Some stayed in a 4 star hotel in Beaumont TX ( http://mcmelegantebeaumont.com/ ) for 5 YEARS getting free govt. support and never even ONCE bothered to pick up a tree limb or look for a job. Entitlement to the core.

SETX worked hard before the winds even subsided to clean up, rebuild, and take care of ourselves. The Katrina people live here off entitlements and have caused lots of crime and mischief here in TX. BTW, we had a 20+ ft. storm surge, too.
