That's the best thing to do. No need to post about the experience in a veiled insult either towards the guy who wasn't hurting anyone or anything.

Afaik this is a message board and my post in reply to the OP broke no forum rules. If the the rest of the post offends you, there's a forum feature available where you don't have to see it. Works quite well. So need or otherwise, as properly noted that would have been my thought.

Not sure the sensitivity here. The guy have poor information using poor logic and we're having a little laugh at his behalf. If that offends someone, that's really being thin skinned.

The only people that speak to me in any store are the little old women who want me to retrieve something off the top shelf they can't reach. And they are as sweet as honey.

Haha, I am sure he was only trying to help but goodness. I have seen some elderly people, and some other people who just looked clueless in the oil isle at Walmart and have wanted to help them out, but never have said anything.

Someone had mentioned they had an Avalon and ended up picking up some Havoline 10w40 or similar, will it hurt it? Probably not, but also not the right oil.

I just nodded and "wasted my money." Sheesh!

It does have a low compression ratio. 8.2:1 if the specs I'm seeing are correct. But yes - that's a whole lot of stupid right there since it also has a turbo.

Not sure if 100 octane (AKI?) is strictly needed, but 93 would be helpful. Kind of hard to find it in California unless it's blended from 100 octane race gas.

I always at least ask if they need help if they look completely clueless.

It's never been a bad experience, and often they expressed they were happy getting a good answer.

Some Sunoco stations across the US have 100 octane unleaded, right at the pump.

It's not too common, though.

You seem confused with my response. I have two separate, and fairly distinct, sentences there....

I've seen it before. I recall the nickname for it was "Smurf gas" because it's typically dyed blue. But it's got to be something sought out, and it's often twice the price of premium unleaded.

If you put FORD oil in a non FORD car, it will come right back out the spigot and wander the neighborhood looking for the nearest Ford like the BLOB.

I usually just smile and say thanks, leaving with what I wanted initially but today I asked..."why wouldn't I want ConocoPhillips oil?" He said "because it says Ford...buddy, that's reason enough"

Good grief. I wonder what he would have thought of me using AC Delco filters on my Ford LTD (when the AC Delco was the cheapest available filter with an ADBV) or when I ran some Motorcrafts on my G37. I'm sure if Motorcraft oil were available outside the dealerships here, Canadian BITOGers would be even more likely to try it. I'm sure the TGMO, cheap as it is in Canada at dealers, isn't only sold to people with Toyotas, either.

My Mustang was my first new Ford and I used Motorcraft in it only for warranty purposes since I had some warranty issues with Ford(non engine related) before my first oil change and after fighting with Ford for months to get my issue covered, I decided to just keep using the Motorcraft oil so I wouldn't give Ford any reason to try to not honor their warranty if I had engine problems.

My car is now out of warranty but I still just use Motorcraft since it's easy to get at Walmart and it's a decent oil.

My fiancee used Motorcraft 10W-30 diesel oil in her 2003 Superduty with the 6.0 for the entire 14 years she owned it with never any engine issues or leaks. She bought the truck new and used it from the beginning. I figured Motorcraft had to be a decent oil since she seemed to have good luck with it with that engine.

You're right. Should have just gone with my instincts.

It can adjust for up to 100 octane(U.S.) as can WRX and Forester XT of that era(first generation in U.S. of those three models)
66 brand 91 octane gave a little more hp on the dyno(probably closer to 92 octane, small I know, but notable)
Sears Point had gas pumps they weren't Sunoco, probably are now.
I know the guy was correct about low compression....off boost! He made an impression with how much he was concerned about my money. Don't know if he was full of kaka or really believed what he was saying but I didn't care. Was thinking about the terrible headwind that is omnipresent at that strip!
Cheap insurance for the engine on a hot day sitting in an asphalt heat sink.
I did cut some 60 foot times under 1.8 seconds but only with the 100 octane, yup, unscientific, I know.
