Stepson just arrived in Afghanistan today. 75th Rangers, Ft. Benning. His mother and I are extremely proud of him and also worried for his safety. Really everyone's safety. I have always had a very healthy respect and admiration for all of our Armed Services. Now that it is one of mine so close to my heart in harms way, I have an even greater feeling. I know that what we are feeling is the same that millions of others have felt over the course of our history as a nation.
Tonight or tomorrow if you know someone who has a family member deployed, call them and let them know that you are thinking about them and how grateful you are for their sacrifice. It just might mean the world to someone.

Not on the news like it used to be but that operation is as important as ever!

Good post. My father has been in Baghdad for nearly 3 years. It's tough, not an hour goes by that I don't think of him. It makes issues that used to not seem important suddenly very important. And some I used to think were important not so important. I get much more excited about certain issues and don't engage in debates with co-workers anymore about issues over there as I no longer have tolerance for the "hippie" crowd.

God Bless them all.

I wish him well and that he returns home safe when his mission is complete.

Communications technology is very good now so you can keep in touch fairly easily.

Care packages are worth their weight in gold, it is an unbelievable feeling to get something from home when you are in his situation.

He joined up with his unit mid-deployment. Plus his missions are classified and more specialized. So in the end he got to come back with his unit even though he had not been there as long as others.
