My Echo SRM-225 had been running poorly for a couple of years. I would have to run it on choke to keep it going. It would fuss, stumble and die when using it. It got so bad that I did not use it for the last three years. Considered getting a new carb for it but just bought a battery powered Stihl.

Anyway I was thinking about the Claims of StarTron that it cleans fuel systems. I put new gas in it and gave it a heavy dose of StarTron, maybe 5 times the basic amount. After a few choice words I did manage to get it running. I ran it on choke for about ten minutes and shut it off. Let it sit for 48 hours and started it up. Lo and behold it runs like new. Started on second pull. So using this product may keep a fuel system clean.

Mechanic in a bottle has the same type of OMG revelations for many. Between seal conditioning and freeing up stuff.

Many claim snake oil, won't do anything. Members here that used it say differently.

I'm glad yours is working again. I try at end of season to drain my fuel tanks now and run some canned ethanol free version with Startron, Sta-Bil Marine or Mechanic in a bottle. It seems to have helped some.

I completely understand your statements but I believe there is a very good reason why some of this stuff may get called that. Apparently, there is little regulation on what a product claims to do vs what it actually can do.

Yup, I have used a secret sauce since 1982 and people here tend to poo poo things they have no experience with and outright talk gibberish on why its not needed...
Great, you do you, and I'll stick with what works best for me..

does that sauce smell of wintergreen?

I have been using Star Tron for years. It's supposed to be a stabilizer, prevent phase separation, prevent Ethanol issues, and clean everything. I don't really rely on it to do more than stabilize. I tried Ethanol Shield last year instead for my OPE fuel and now I use Sea Foam or Gumout Complete Tune Up with each individual tank of fuel on my carbureted OPE.

The Chicanic channel tested out a few things and said that I think it was mechanic in a bottle fixed the no start no run on a leaf vacuum that sat for two years. That's interesting that the Star tron cleaned up the fuel system. It sounded like one of the jets might have been clogged.

Marine Stabil goes in every can of gas I use for outboards, motorcycles, and other small gas engines. They all start right up and run right even after sitting for a year or two with ethanol gas. For long term storage I add double the recommended amount. Recently sold a carbureted motorcycle that sat for almost two years with 5 gallons in the tank and it started up just like normal. I do use a mixture of Startron and Biobor in my diesel sailboat engine, based on some Practical Sailor studies.

Thats a great review. Likely your carb was gummed up. Do you think that it was this product, or the fact that you did 500% more than the normal rate?

If it works it works.
