Hey about 2 years ago O'Reillys had a sale on their house brand syn. It was crazy cheap like $19 with a K&N filter or something like thats. I remember guys were loading up on it! Wonder where all of their stories are?

Why are you all of a sudden hating on recycled/re-refined oil in the first place!? Have you ever saw CRUDE/RAW oil straight out of the ground? If not dont go putting nonsense/words, and b.s. in my mouth. have a good day! For the record, I have been with my company over 11 yrs now and YES we use RECYCLED/RE REFINED MOTOR OIL in every vehicle in our fleet; no problems. You happy now? good.

thanks

back on topic folks, keep the stories coming

Adam

Yes, Super Tech motor oil is now supplied by CITGO, Houston TX as shown in MSDS at msds.walmartstores.com

It will be used in my next spring OCI if I don't find any FAR oils.

It's made by WPP here in SC. and it's SN ILSAC GF5,so why not?!.

I dont like NAPA'S add pack even if it is from Valvoline, and valvoline does not produce their own oil like M1, SHELL, CONOCO PHILLIPS, CASTROL, KENDALL and others do. I like that MAG1 makes Super Tech OILS.
Valvoline actually blends their own oil from other people's basestocks, like NextGen is actually blended from Safety Kleen's basestock. I agree on the NAPA oil-it is an even weaker additive mix than Valvoline conventional. Ashland, the parent company of Valvoline, doesn't have any oil reserves of their own-but if you've ever crossed into WV from KY on I-64 & gone by their refinery in Catlettsburg-they have the ability to do a lot!

How did this thread turn into a pro-NAPA oil thread? They don't carry the oil that the OP wants, lets move on.

shell_user: is Supertech in your area available as 0w20 or just 5w20?

If it has the API certified stamp required by your vehicle you should be good to go. Stay away from non certified oils like those sold at discount Dollar Stores etc. And yes, NAPA oil is fine.

Mobil 1 would not sell their formula to WAL MART.

It might be a variation of Mobil but definitely not Mobil 1.

5W20, but I have some MAG1 0W20 in my HUGE stash also. Like 15 5qt jugs of the MAG 1 stuff. It is made by same company that ST is so its all good. I just dislike the add pack NAPA uses, so enough bashing other store brands.

Yeas they do havfe a dexos1 offering. My brother used some mag1 semi syn 10w30 in his 68' cad deville convert.

Yes, do a search on Mag1 pds and it's a decent product made by Warren - same maker of some SuperTech. My next OCI is Mag1 Euro 5W-40 bought at Amazon for $32 per 6qts.

That's the Warren stuff. My Walmart bow has G stamped on their Supertech so I don't know who makes it. For WPP, most likely their PDS is same as Accel's Full Synthetic line:

I've only used their dino version and was happy with it. Will e using their Mag1 version next OCI.

If a long drain is what your looking for, NAPA and SYNPOWER are probably not what you want. but one sure thing is that according to used oil analysis Valvoline oils provide excellent wear protection, if not the very best if your counting ppm's.

I try to not get hung up on Add packs. The best used oil analysis ive ever had were on MSS which many will say has a "weak" add pack. i will take a weak add pack and low wear over a stout add pack and higher wear any day.

NAPA and ST meet the exact same requirements, the performance will be very similar.

I think the commercial is from 1965. That is the year City Service changed to CITGO, and the car at the gas pumps is a 1965 Impala.
