First UOA on this car. Wanted to check performance of SuperTech 5W30 dino oil with SuperTech 4967 oil filter @ 3500 miles installed 7/1/09. Will extend OCI to 5000 miles on the 96 G20 Infiniti 2.0L four cylinder with 243,947 miles. Bought the car new and never had any internal engine work performed. ST 5W30 oil & filters used since 228,510 miles with 3000 mile OCI. Last two air filters replaced @ 212258 & 243413 miles. 1/2 of my driving is 5 mile (spirited) round trips to local stores including Walmarte'. Have a 04 ZX3 2.3L Focus with 75K that should have 5000 miles in December on ST 5W30 & ST3614 that will also have a UOA performed. ST Oil/filter changes cost around $11.

Wanted to share the Blackstone report and hear comments about this oil/filter combination:

Bill, Wear looks great in this initial sample from your
Infiniti. You've kept your oil changes around 3,500 miles though you should easily be able to go 5,000 miles next time.
The flashpoint was low enough to show fuel in the oil, though this is likely from driving around town. No coolant or
moisture found. Nissan makes nice engines, and at nearly 250,000 miles, this one isn't an exception.

Great report outside of the fuel. Didn't seem to bother anything.

Running SuperTech 5W30 in three cars, Toyota pickup and 15W40 in three motorcycles. Been thinking about changing to synthetic oil, but may stay with the ST Dino & filters if the 5000 mile report on the Focus looks good too. Will have a UOA performed on the ST 15W40 from the DL650 too.

Thanks!

ST/Champion filters dropped to $2.50 each. ST 5W30 is $9.50 per 5 quart container and ST 15W40 is $8.50 per gallon.

Does anyone know which company makes makes ST oils?

For conventional ST oil, if the bottles are shaped like XOM bottles then it's XOM oil. If the bottles are the conventional shape, it's WPP oil.

All ST syn and syn blend is made by WPP.

Thanks G-Man.

Jax-RX8,
Live where I have a short & long twisty route to the store. Use high power/revs staying under the 7500 red line. "Guessing" the rides with high power could have introduced the additional fuel in the oil.

nickel, tin, lead, chromium are all too high for this short of an oil change interval in this engine. It is well broken in at 24K miles so no excuses left. This oil simply did not do a good job even over the modest OCI!I think that the base stock and VII's shearing combined with the anemic additive package are showing up in the wear number's!Keep useing ST 5W30 and you will not have much engine life!

JohnBrowning,

Thanks for your comments. Will have another vehicle with same oil for UOA @ 5000 miles next month.

That's 240k miles if I read it right. Otherwise, for a 1996 engine ..this would have been something like a 2 year OCI. The silicon is a bit high for the short interval ..but plumbing issues could account for the minor ticks here and there. The fuel can be assigned the rest of the blame.

You are right. It is over 243000 total miles. The 96 G20 & engine has not had any internal work performed for the life of the engine. I believe the fuel content is the problem too. Hope to submit a 5,000 mile UOA next month from another vehicle, 04 Focus ZX3 2.3L, with 75K driven 99% highway miles currently using ST 5W30 dino & ST filter. The cost to perform the UOA test are well worth it to me, even if a ST oil/filter change cost $11, to understand how ST products perform in my different vehicles including motorcycles.

I read it at 24,000 miles and I read it as 3507 mile oil change interval. I have to admit I did not notice that this was a 24 month OCI on top of the low miles! I will not blame the oil if it was inthe sump 2 years that is asking too much for any oil let alone some cheap garbage like ST......I have it in my Mom's Tundra but that could run on Extra Virgin Olive Oil and be happy it being a Toyota V8. I also have it in Mom's Camry but again it is a Toyota driven as mildly as one can drive with out breaking the law for traveling too slow!Mom does not really push here vehicle like I push mine! I am even putting ST in the wifes 3.8 again a a kitten on oil! I would never leave any oil in for 2 years and I would not put ST in anything that remotely challenges the oil!

No, JB

..I only said that if it was only 24k on a 96 engine it would have to have been a 2 year OCI (13 model years with only 24k on it ..and a 3k oci = rough figures )

This is a relatively old engine (240k+) that's all. The plumbing could have a bad grommet or something causing the silicon.

Anyway, you get the idea.

You must scan read like I do. I failed the (what's their name) speed reading course

JB,

This UOA with others to follow, will determine how this inexpensive oil performs with different OCI in my vehicles. Not sure what the overall outcome will be, but very interested to see UOA results, good or bad.

Appreciate the comments from everyone!
