Definitely don't expect a miracle if you're using granular weed killer. Granular is fine for fertilizer, but spray is more effective for weeds.I'm gonna weed and feed my lawn for the first time this year. Not expecting miracles, but the crab grass, clover, and dandelions have taken over! Chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday so I wanna get it down by tomorrow.
I have put down several bags of fertilizer. The neighbor behind me with the 167 acres own a fertilizer supply, so they hook me up with some good stuff! Probably overkill, but it works really good. I need to de-thatch but that will have to wait till next year.

The lawn care company I've used in the past always says something like "the best defense against weeds is strong, healthy grass". There are supposedly "safe" things you can use to kill weeds, like a mixture of vinegar, table salt, and dish soap. Skip the salt if you want to do grass seed soon after though.Honest we don't use any nasty stuff on our property. Our grass isn't perfect, we have a few weeds and some bugs. Oh well, to each their own.
We use and like vinegar, but not good in lawns or near most metals. Front lawn we keep it healthy and pull weeds . I encourage good clover front and back. Our back grass is just mixed pasture grass that we have encouraged as well with fertilizer closer in. The outer areas I just mow, it's happy. The lawn care company I've used in the past always says something like "the best defense against weeds is strong, healthy grass". Mowed the front field for the first time to knock some of the weeds down. Pensacola Bahia.
Fleet farm granular crabgrass preventer in this area is Prodiamine based. Seems to work better than others I've been using lately.Check out Prodiamine which is better than the weed and feed products.
