Springtime - Who's started yardwork?

I bought a drop spreader from Menards so I'm ready to get the Menards crabgrass preventer step 1 down tomorrow. Supposed to have rain Tuesday so it'll get watered in 👏

I'm gonna weed and feed my lawn for the first time this year. Not expecting miracles, but the crab grass, clover, and dandelions have taken over! Chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday so I wanna get it down by tomorrow.

I have put down several bags of fertilizer. The neighbor behind me with the 167 acres own a fertilizer supply, so they hook me up with some good stuff! Probably overkill, but it works really good. I need to de-thatch but that will have to wait till next year.

Definitely don't expect a miracle if you're using granular weed killer. Granular is fine for fertilizer, but spray is more effective for weeds.

Check out Prodiamine which is better than the weed and feed products.

Honest we don't use any nasty stuff on our property. Our grass isn't perfect, we have a few weeds and some bugs. Oh well, to each their own.
The lawn care company I've used in the past always says something like "the best defense against weeds is strong, healthy grass". There are supposedly "safe" things you can use to kill weeds, like a mixture of vinegar, table salt, and dish soap. Skip the salt if you want to do grass seed soon after though.

We use and like vinegar, but not good in lawns or near most metals. Front lawn we keep it healthy and pull weeds . I encourage good clover front and back. Our back grass is just mixed pasture grass that we have encouraged as well with fertilizer closer in. The outer areas I just mow, it's happy.

Mowed the front field for the first time to knock some of the weeds down. Pensacola Bahia.

Here in MD, DC suburbs, did the first preemergent treatment in early March. First mow last weekend and the grass is now growing quickly. April and May are crazy here need to mow 2x/week. Also started targeted treatment of some very difficult grassy weeds, mulching, trimming dead branches from the trees, etc.

My grass looks like garbage but I have mowed it once this year so far. I'm getting my dormant sprinkler system repaired so I don't have to water manually and I can get consistent watering. I'm gonna resod some areas that got ravaged by chinch bugs last year. So far what I have really done is blow a ton of leaves with my new backpack blower. There's a definite technique to it and I'm not very good at it.

Grass on my 3/4 acre is half awake in spots. Have some dead areas that need seeding yet. Tried firing up riding mower, battery died even with a maintainer on it all winter. Should have taken it out and brought it indoors. Rough, cold, snowy winter this year -(.. New battery came in today. Guess those below 0 degrees days did it in. Was a 4yr old AGM Briggs battery 190 CCA's. Won't make that mistake again. I'll install it once the temps stop swinging from 70's to 30's. Meantime, I'll do some seeding. Did remove all the sticks and small branches from the lawn though -)

Here (Charleston SC) lawn work never ends. January through March I am mowing to mulch the leaves dropped from the live oak trees. Now it is time to prune the azaleas back as they have stopped blooming. I have fertilized the lawn (a mix of centipede and St, Augustine). I only add that fertilizer once per year, usually in April.

Frost on lawn again. Daily high temps only reaching to 50-52 degrees. Old man winter taking his time to leave New York. Trees haven't even started to bud new leaves yet. It's all fine with me. I'm in no rush to cut the lawn. Hate doing it anyway now that I'm almost 60. I did call my previous landscaper, ( used him while I was working...but retired in 2022)... His prices just to cut almost tripled since 2021 ! No thanks I said, I'll do it myself for a lousy few gallons of gas.
