It depends on how big the area is. I'll use my rider for big areas and push-mower for not so big. My old Honda Harmony push mower (mulcher) does an AMAZING job turning leaves into powder. I don't have a mulch kit for my Cub Z-Force rider, so I have to run over the same paths a few times to powder them up.

Shredded leaves is an excellent source of free lawn food.

I have an Echo Shred N' Vac and I usually shred 40 or 50 lbs. of leaves to put in the vegetable garden. It's great for adding humus to soil.

X2.

OPE usually becomes worthless when you try to power it with an electric motor. We have some weird stuff come in at work, most of it from Homelite/Ryobi. We've had a corded electric tiller, several corded trimmers, and corded and battery powered mowers. I haven't been impressed with any of it, and replacement parts are expensive. Newer versions of the mowers at least have easy to replace batteries, though they are still very expensive. The older versions required removing a bunch of bolts to remove the motor cover, removing more bolts to loosen the batteries, and then taking out a bunch of screws and bolts to get all the cables/wires loose. We replace a lot of the circuit boards too.

Gas powered OPE for sure!!

My wife bought a battery powered trimmer - p.o.s. couldn't trim the legs of of a mosquito.

Then she bought a battery powered leaf blower - p.o.s. couldn't blow out a candle.

Finally I told her to leave the OPE buying to me. Gas powered and two cycle all the way!

I probably could have nominated my 'Garden Weasel' as most worthless yard tool, but I gave it away at a 'pink elephant gift exchange' a few years ago.
