Springfield SA35

I picked up this Springfield SA35 on Thursday afternoon. It's used, but appears to be shot very little. This is my first experience with a Hi Power platform pistol. I'm hoping to try it out tomorrow.

I am aware of the potential extraction issues that could arise. My gunsmith advised replacing the extractor and spring with one from an FN should that happen.

I'll report back.

A friend bought one new and it shot like crap, no functional issues just terribly inaccurate. Sent it back to SA, they checked it out and said it's fine. It's the pistol not him, he can shoot respectably. Hope yours meets your expectations. Good looking pistol.

Apparently failure to extract issues can arise around the 700-800 round mark, and become progressively worse. I don't really know what the FN part changes, I'm just going off the advice of an experienced gunsmith. I also know that once a gun exhibits an issue, the internet decides they all have that issue. There have been a few well respected firearm YouTube channels that have tested these to 1000 rounds and had the aforementioned issue at 800.

Overall the reviews on these seem no different than any mass produced firearm. I have read some saying theirs shot low and left. We'll see how it does.

SA had some growing pains with this model initially but many report they have been worked out. I think they did a good job bringing back the old school legend. Looking forward to hearing how yours is after a few thousand rounds.

Mine is a 65xx serial number, and the information on what numbers typically gave issue is conflicting at best.

The internet says that the extractor spring is weak. The FN one is "better". Who knows. I think it is a combination of weak spring and perhaps left over crap from machining. I fired one when they first came out and had no issues over maybe a 500 round session. Not sure if there is an issue, other than the internet says so......

Of course a problem that should not exist.

I had a P238 that would self eject the mag after firing, an AK disconnector spring fixed that right up.

I think you were making an argument that someone has to be skilled at something before they make a YouTube video.

I’m not sure anybody is buying that argument…
