Spin on full flow/by-pass filter in one

Can one filter be manufactured that is a full flow and by-pass filter in one spin on unit that replaces your stock filter?

I have seen first hand the how an by-pass filter can extend oil indefinately. A smaller all in one version would be the perfect filter to use with today's synthetic oils IMO. Sort of a dual chamber element.

Is it possible, too costly, or hard to market?

Many years ago J.C. Whitney had an aluminum finned FF cannister that used a roll of TP as a filter media. I think the only one that is currently manufactured now is Trasco.
I am not a fan of FF spin-on depth type media filters. We know that some FF filters can cause more wear. Then we add extreme depth type filtering media to the FF and we may increase that wear. The wear will not be affected as much if the bypass valve, engine/filter maintains the proper press and opens when required. But then we are washing the contaminants back into the oil stream. Not a win/win system to me. I prefer a single remote bypass filter in conjuction with a FF or a block-off plate and remote bypass only.

Glad to see that this is available. I don't get the concept of how it works? Do you buy a new filter at first, then a part of it every 10k and keep the oil in the engine?

So then I spend $78 for the first one, and $10 every 10k after that?

So it looks like I have to find out what size threads I have and order that one. How will I know if it will fit in the space available?

Yes, buy the unit for $78, which comes with two BP rolls for the first 15K miles (Trasko recommend only 5K miles on the first roll), then $10 every 10K miles thereafter.

The jury is still out on how effective the Trasko is. I am getting good visible results, but the first UOA in about 2 months time will be the real test.

Very interesting, thanks I'm looking into it.

I'd like to put one on my JD tractor, but the filter is only 2 3/4" diameter. The oil pressrue sensor may be too close.

My truck already has an Amsoil dual by-pass.

My wife would like to replace the minivan soon.

So I'm down to my son's 99 Concord with 167k.

Or, I could put on on the JD 445 hydro filter if I can match it, but Fram does not list it. I bet it will go a long way on hydro oil, and the change is $3 a quart for 7 quarts every other year. That's an eight year payback.

There are combination filters made for over diesel engines see the fleetguard website for more information. The filters have a pleated element and a stacked disc setup I think they are called venturi ? or close to that .

The Trasko is the only combined FF/BP that I am aware of. The FF part is a steel mesh, and the BP part is similar to a toilet paper roll but is a little smaller.

There are at least a couple of us trying Trasko filters, use the forum search function to find the posts. I now have 2500 miles on mine, half way to a 5K UOA. This is a drop of the oil after 2500 miles:

Still looking very clean. I hope to be able to go 20K miles on the oil, with BP filter element changed every 10K miles. Someone else here has gone 40K miles on oil with a Trasko.
