Well me Silverado ss LQ9 with cam and full exhaust with long tube. I no longer have to worry about warranty or cats fouling. I am concerned about cam wear and cold start protection. Heavily used well beaten up engine. Still going fine. I have been using 5w30 syn with comp cam cam additive. I want a regular walmart type oil. Thinking delvac or rotell but fear they may be to thick. 5w30 works ideal in this engine. Proven over 200K miles so far. No consumption at all. Engine was super clean when the heads were off.

I was thinking 5w30 mobile 1 high mileage or 10w30 rotella

High flow cats so less of a concern. rear o2's still enabled.

I wonder if something like this is avail at big box stores. https://mobildelvac.com/en/motor-oils/mobil-delvac-1/mobil-delvac-1-le

heads after ten years in service

Saw that oil at my local international dealer, but have not seen elsewhere. I would go with Rotella 5W40 for that application..its proven in ATV, motorcycles, turbocharged, supercharged etc.

0w40 M1 or Castrol is my strong recomendation. One of the two would meet your needs. Higher zinc, nice light 40 and a 0w rating for cold. Only one of the two for me now in my rebuilt lq4 in the 04 below.

If your sold on 5w30 then M1 hm or defy would be my choices. Easy to find, stout and reasonably priced.

Edit: I'm considering a M1 Hm mix since my oil cooler hose/o rings in my 3rd new aftermarket radiator are leaking again and I'm sick of replacing radiators.

I'd go with pp on sale at walmart. usually 19.99$ for 4.4 litres. my car usually gets this with a mid range fram.
and if I had your truck id be running it in 5w30. But that's just me.

EvanD,

For a specific Rotella recommendation, could you tell us what year your Chevrolet Silverado SS LQ9 is? Also, when you mention “full exhaust with long tube,” do you mean that your current engine is running without catalytic converters? If so, that might affect the oil recommendation as well.
