Spark Knock/Pinging

The PCM uses information sent to it by the sensors to control injector on-time as well as ignition timing. The wrong fuel map will not cause pre-detonation. It seems as though one of the sensors is out of range, causing inaccurate timing. If the knock sensor was working properly, the PCM should have retarded the timing and thrown a code.

Maybe it's a fault from the factory. I wouldn't leave the dealership until they fixed it. Give them ****. You payed good money for that car and you deserve to have it run right. **** them.

you sure it isnt some other noise like a harmonic vibration from the aftermarket exhaust.

i have an aftermarket exahust on my car and it sounds like pinging at lower rpm's but it isnt, its just the sound of the exhaust making some kind of crazy harmonics.

I don't have aftermarket anything and it still pings...
ECU controls injection & ignition based on the data curves set in its memory. I strongly suspect something is not right with the data in ROM.
UOA show very good numbers...

Are you using ANY oil whatsoever?

Nah, that's for uneducated folks!

Currently running Mobil 1 5w30. Then I'll get to my GC stash...

The only oil I "use" is what the catch can catches, what blows by the PCV. I find the higher the oil level the more oil passes through.

I also use M1, currently trying 10w30(Walmart ran out of 5w).

BTW Yuri, thanks for posting your data!

Interesting pinging vs intake temp data, is hot coolant looped through the throttle? can it be easilty bypassed?
anyone test if a cold air intake would help?

Run it hot on a dyno. I'd love to know how well tuned(A/F ratios) are from that automaker.

The coolant is looped through the TB on this engine. All the time, no additional thermostat or anything.
It is actually a great idea to try to by-pass the TB, at least in summer. I'd have to look if there are coolant hoses coming to the TB or if it has channels molded in.
Although TB heating is pretty common on modern engines. I still blame A/F ratios tables set in ECU's ROM for different temperatures...
