His Grandmother (my ex's) has dementia and can't drive anymore and gave it to her Son, who has just bought a truck so he offered it to my Son for $5000. All I know so far is it has around 100K miles. Grandmother's Daughter is an ER Dr. that bought the car for her and I want to think they took good care of it but don't know yet. The manual shows timing belt due, hope it has been done. I've heard they are good cars, and it looks like there was only the v6 engine. Not sure the trim level. Just asking about any known issues to check for. Hopefully there are service records, but the car is in FL. We are in TX so there will be shipping. He can't take off time to fly and drive (15 hour drive). Also, know a good shipper?

Most likely needs the serpentine belt replaced at that mileage, as they don't have timing belts. Great vehicles, ours is a 2010 and has been virtually trouble free, it's currently @ 245k kms.

Hopefully you can obtain service and maintenance records from Granny. If the records show good care, your son has many more miles of driving to enjoy, especially for $5,000. That's a steal, especially for a Lexus in Florida. I did most maintenance on a friend's 2015 RX350 for the past 8 years. I don't recall anything ever breaking or failing on that SUV after 130K miles.

I had a 93 SC400. Great car. Still on my 2001 Tacoma daily driver. They used to know how to make a V6! And a V8!

I looked at this generation in hybrid form for quite a while. These may be some of the best built vehicles in the Lexus lineup, very long lived. 5k is a steal, they sell for 2-3 times this much with that mileage. It will easily be worth 2-3k if it takes that to catch up on any needed maintenance - timing belt, brakes, tires…

We bought 2 2010 RX350, it is great. Not perfect but engine is running.
We have to replace the suspension on the older of the 2 (3 years of ownership).
The other one was bought last year, not used too much but no repair needed (5000 miles driven so far).

For $5000, it is a good deal.
Coming from FL means no salt on the road unless they live on the beach.
Dealership around here still charges close to $13000.

If he's not interested in it post the details where we can get it instead. That would be 5 years newer and 151k less than my daughters CRV. 3 years newer and 100k less than my sons Forte and he would love the extra space of the SUV.

An RX350/Venza/Highlander/Sienna with 2GR-FE and known history? I would not let it out of the family.

2GR-FE expected concerns - front timing cover oil leak, head gasket erosion (in valley) and VVT actuators. Use good oil. Change often, keep fresh Toyota pink in it.

Thx all. He said it has service records. We can get the vin. I hope he takes care of it if he gets it. I live 2 hours from him.

That’s a screaming deal.

For reference last summer I paid $17k private party for my 2014 Lexus ES350 and it was worth every penny. Dealers wanted $20k-$21k plus fees and taxes.

$5K for that? If you don’t buy it I will. I mean not literally but you get my point… that is a great price for a very nice, reliable, safe vehicle.

Its a timing chain not belt. The timing chain cover loves to leak and the oil cooler likes to burst if its made out of rubber.

'13-'15 is the RX to have. 2GR-FE with the 6 speed is the sweet spot. On the used market even at book values these are great buys.

Replace the coolant with Toyota SLLC, flush the brake fluid, and do a single drain and fill on the transmission fluid (should be about 2 quarts of Toyota WS) right when you get it.

Lucky find.
