Something different at Walmart

I wonder if the barcode matches some later Mobil oil that WalMart carries. Do manufacturers (Mobil in this case) reuse UPCs very often?

As Quattro Pete suggested, it's a Samsung Galaxy Note.

Well, to be fair, that's probably the only PAO on the shelf.

Back in the day when I used M1 in my C4 Corvettes, I remember that it had a different smell than other "synthetics" (this was prior the new definition of a synthetic).

Cool stuff, brings back memories... The first oil change I ever did when I was 16, was using that same oil (M1 Tri-Syn) in 10w30... Forgot what it cost me, but I believe it was close to $5 a quart.. That's when brand name conventional sold for about $1.79 a quart.

It went in a 1986 Toyota Tercel 4x4 with the state of the art carbureted 1.5L engine (3A) and all of it's 69 horsepower. At times I think the thing burned more oil than gasoline, so its diet of Mobil1 was short lived.

Later changes consisted of SAE30 or 10w-40 oils to minimize consumption. When an accident finally killed the car it was running on about 2.5 cylinders and had over 250k miles. Just to get up to highway speeds meant shifting at 5-6k rpm. Had to clean the spark plugs regularly of oil deposits in order to keep the few remaining cylinders firing! The horrible compression the engine had yielded about 14 miles per gallon mixed city/highway.

Yeah, I was gonna say this wouldn't be such a shocking sight in a K-Mart or Sears...

That reminds me of the old redcap 15W50 I found at a Chevron store. It was a "Mobil" oil and not an "ExxonMobil" oil. I bought it to display on my shelf with my model cars :^)

Man, I just about jumped out of my seat when I saw your picture of that old Mobil 1. Last week I went to a local Walmart to buy some Mobil 1 0w20. I spied a odd and old looking bottle of 0w30 Mobil 1 that looked like it had been in the back of somebody's pick-up for years. I recognized the bottle as being previous to the current design, and confirmed it due to its SL rating. I would imagine it was from the beginning of the SL rating years from its appearance. To top it off, it had obviously been opened at some point. Who knows what was in there. Anyways, I returned it to the customer service desk and told them they got scammed. It even had a sticker stating it was returned it August 2012. Wish I would have taken a picture!

The only thing that made me jump out of my seat was the American price compared to our price.

This is a funny sight because I just poured a quart of this same oil in my nieces car when I did a change for her last week. She had 1 quart in the trunk and the car was given to her by her parents, so it must have been in there for years unopened. I did some blending of a few different brands of oil for this change using mostly stuff I had left around along with this 1 quart.

How'd you come to that conclusion?
