Some rust treatment tid-bits

Took my pickup to get it's yearly CarWell treatment today.

I pointed out an area under the doors where a reinforcing brace seems to be rusting faster than anything else. Ford seems to have made an error in design as there are pockets with one drain that gets clogged easily.

So for these two sections he sprayed (from a can) some FF. Everything else got CarWell. Seems the FF is thicker than CarWell T32.

Several years ago CarWell used T40 on the undercarriage and T32 in the cavaties. The T40 was supplied by Krown in Canada. But Krown would not guarantee their product with respect to damaging electrical connections so CarWell dropped it.

I am convinced that T40 on the undercarriage would be best and T32 in cavaties.

So in order of thickness: CarWell T32 is thinnest, best for cavaties, next is FF and last is Krown.

But no one product does all areas best.

Thanks for the tips. I do my own rust proofing now. I've used krown and rust check here and i wasn't totally impressed with areas they missed over the years. I've been using fluid film the past two years. I've invested with the FF gun.

A lot of times you need to remove the interior door panels etc to get the rustproofing everywhere. I find the rustproofing places don't do this so there is no way to know how well they've coated all the metal panels.

Having all the products, I don't think that t-40 is thicker than FF, but interesting info!

I had heard some anecdotal mention of krown sometimes swelling rubber, but have never experienced that.

There are two FF's, the spray can (thinner) and the paint can (thicker).

I thought T40 was just a thicker version of T32

That's what I thought until Cliff told me today CarWell bought it from Krown and repackaged.

I made my own undercoating waxoil. You have to heat it up to spray it but it creates a dense soft waxy coating.

Your statement differs from what they claim on Krown websites:

- While protecting the body and structure of your vehicle, the Krown rust protection product is also protecting the electrical system throughout the vehicle. Krown keeps electrical connections from corroding, further lengthening the life of the vehicle, and reducing the common and expensive repairs related to vehicle wiring.

- T40 doesn’t have any smell, it is environmentally friendly, it displaces water, therefore it works excellent to protect electric connections as it is dielectric.

- The product is designed dielectric, therefore it can be used on electrical plugs and connections, preventing corrosion and loss of connection

- Effective in high and low temperatures – Safe on all electrical components – Solvent free

- Use on motorcycles?……yes for any metal, aluminum, electrical connections etc.

I was told the issue was Krown would not guarantee it when sold by CarWell.

Thanks Donald.

The T-40 is marketed as their "better" rust protection product. The two different Krown dealers I have gone to in Canada and Michigan use only the T-40 for all areas.

The Carwell site shows a lot of pride in their applications. What are they using for the underside of vehicles now? It seems that the T-32 is not appropriate for that.

EDIT: I just went to the Carwell site and see that they do not list the T-40 in their product list. This is very interesting....and confusing.
