some comfortable shoes?

Merrel- had 5-6 pair of them and loved them
Ecco- also very nice but the insoles are a little "hard", very comfortable though.

I'd look at insoles before shoes; do you have high arches? I've been using Dr. Scholls Extra Support insoles or the Gel Sport replacement insoles, depending on how lax the support is in the shoe I have. They make a dramatic difference for me. I generally use them with trail running/ low cut hiking shoes, whatever name brand I find cheap.

Plus, many NB choices are made in USA.

Another vote for NB. I've got a few pairs of their cross-trainers, and they are very comfy. You can also order them in extra-wide sizes if you have wider feet, like I do.

I can't speak for running shoes. I own several different pairs and in my opinion the comfort level is really only fair. I think running shoes in general were far more comfortable twenty plus years ago.
For some super-comfortable oxford lace-up style that look great in jeans or casual slacks....I've been hooked on these for ten years now:

Like some others mentioned, you didn't say what you were doing, just standing around vs walking a ton. What did you not like about the Reeboks or the Costco shoes?

Regardless, I think that shoe selection is a pretty personal process, what's comfortable for one foot may not be comfortable for another.

I agree that it's definitely worth spending more on a good pair of comfortable shoes that should last a long time. For me, finding a shoe that's available in wide sizes help. Then, you can try out different higher end insoles. Go to a shoe or outdoor outfitter that might have some insoles to try out. I tried a bunch of Superfeet insoles that didn't fit me well and ended up with some Spenco branded insoles that feel great. They're not too expensive at $10-20 each, but more than the cheap dr. scholls stuff.

I also like to wear wool socks. Costco had a fairly inexpensive pack of wool sock for hiking, they were a little thicker but kept my feet happier. The wool wasn't too hot at all, it actually helped wick away moisture. I'll NEVER go back to cotton socks.

My GF is a nurse and really likes Danskos, although I think the clog style is harder for a guy to pull off.

The key for me was good socks and finding shoes that don't have too much arch and either run wide, or are available in wide sizes. For me, I've found that combination of certain styles of many different brands, Born, Merrell, Timberlands, Clarks, etc.

When I worked at the shipyard, I wore 8" work boots. I also wear them at my present job. Latest are from Carolina boot. They are tan with a crepe sole. Very comfy. They are uninsulated. Two pair of wool sox, year round when at the 'Yard. I can get away with a pair of heavy cotton sox in the cushy job I have now.
