Some co workers amaze me

Hello BITOG and Happy friday

Overheard a moron of a co worker say he bought a 2014 Accord base model with 30,xxx. He said it says to use 0w20
Oil. Then he said he looks at Wal mart and couldn't find any 0w20. I said, "we'll go to the automotive section and look!"

Then he says "isn't a 0w20 oil just same as a SAE 30 or 40 oil? After this sultupidity in motion I left

I haven't had a decent car conversation with a co-worker in a long time since I don't work in the shop environment anymore. While checking out the auto section at Wal-Mart yesterday I was informed by a helpful fellow to always make sure to ask what type of oil is put into my car. He explained that you cant mix conventional and synthetic because the synthetic oil will just float on top of the conventional and wont mix together. Like oil and water he explained so I could have a better visual picture I guess.

I have a co worker with an automatic N/A Subaru Impreza who has HKS, Apexi etc stickers on his car. Also has a "carbon fiber" fuel cover, which must have saved 0.01 grams of weight.

He plans to buy a new WRX..... with CVT...

This is awesome.

I mix synthetic and conventional base oils all the time. Usually when I am trying to get better cold temperature performance, or trying to meet a specific price point for a customer. I guess that's why we mix them for several hours to make sure there is no separation before putting them in your bottles.

You should have asked him what Semi-Synthetic was and then stand back while his head explodes.

you would be surprised how many mechanics repeat the same stupid stuff as well...its always blown my mind.

Guns are the same story. I had a guy scream at me...literally...because I told him there was no such things as a 7mm glock

I had a similar experience with a co-worker when I was referring to a 10mm, and he said, "Oh, you mean a 9mm...there is no such thing as a 10mm..."

This should help everyone here to realize that despite all the OCD, sweaty palms, and bed-wetting, there are very few actual lubrication related failures in the automotive world.
And most of the ones that do happen are gross negligence like 30,000 mile OCIs or running 3 quarts low on a 5 quart engine.

Per my signature I'm currently running 3 qts. 10w30 Havoline conventional and 1 qt. Pennzoil Ultra 5w20, so I better be careful. At least I've been warned.

I know it's not the perfect scenario but I picked up the last 3 qts of Havoline on clearance and the 1 qt of PUP was left over from a different oci.

There are a lot of folks driving cars that do not have a clue. I was getting ready to jump start a friends car when he asked me if my car (2007 T&C) had a 6 or 12 volt system. The last car that I saw with a 6 volt system was a 1954 model. He had a Ford Explorer that he never checked the oil on. He just changed the oil when the oil light came on. He put 300K on that SUV before he traded it.

1) I heard a customer in a tire store say balancing of rear wheels was not ever necessary.

2) I asked a fellow if his garage had 0W-40 for my turboed car and he went into a rap about a new "0W-0" oil.
I used all my strength and turned and walked away. Brooklyn swine.

3) I corrected a Walmart employee when he told a customer to use 0W-20 in the Winter and a 20W-50 in the Summer because it was hotter out.
He looked blankly at me but didn't resist.

4) I asked at a name brand (Valvoline) quick lube place if they had Toyota T-IV trannie fluid for changes and his brain and body simply locked up.

There is absolutely a strata of people beneath which SHOULD NOT be allowed to reproduce. My choice.

As much as I try to share experience with my kids - they won't even look under the hood ! They bring their vehicles over for me to check the oil where I keep a oil stash for topping off each ... Yeah , if your wondering who does the oil changes and tracks the OCI's that would be me as well . Counting my wife's van and my car I run an "oil service" for 6 vehicles (Ford , GM , Chrysler , Hyundai and Kia ) ... At least it gets the kids over to the house to sit down and spend time with their mom ! ... Millennials .
