The new batteries in post #18 have worked out well and I have a full dusk to dawn capability. I’ll see how they perform as the fall approaches and the nights get longer.

Reporting back on how the lights did. I noticed the lights are good and strong into the evening again on a sunny day. They were pretty much lousy all winter. We are at 50 degrees N latitude, one degree north of the 49th parallel marking the US border. There is still room to make the solar panel on top the light larger to try get dawn to dusk capability during the winter. So basically they don’t have enough juice on the two months on either side of the winter solstice on Dec 21.

I've been looking for some motion sensing lights for a side entrance and live in Canada where it gets down to -40C. I notice alot of lights these days use Li-Ion, which isn't preferred for me IMO since you aren't supposed to charge these cells below 0C.

Wondering what people's experience are with such lights and the cold.

I don’t know about -40 C but mine are functioning at -10 C ( 15 F). I really haven’t researched at one time they die for the night but let me say there doesn’t seem to be much permanent damage. Needless to say these lights are good 8 months a year and lousy 4 months a year when you are this far north and in the cold.

Here we are at March 1st and it was a sunny the last two days. The lights were bright in the evening and still were on at dawn although very weak.
