I recently switched to Mobil 1 ATF in my 2000 Sienna minivan with an Aisin Warner transmission. The van never shifted roughly with the standard issue Dexron III that the dealer uses, but after switching to Mobil 1 ATF, the shifting is now barely noticeable. The 1st-2nd upshift seems a little lazy when cold. Once warm, shifts are still very soft, but more positive. 2nd-3rd shifting is even softer and 3rd-OD is virtually imperceptible. Noise also seems up just a bit in 1st gear over the previous Dexron III fill. While it's certainly the smoothest this transmission has ever shifted, the changes in shift behavior have made me a little concerned about my choice of fluid for this application. Any reason to be worried about this?

You better give more information. If this is a Toyota Sienna with an AW trans then it does NOT take Dexron. It take the Toyota fluid T-IV which is JWS 3309 oil spec and also Mobil 3309. Don't put a synthetic in AW trans. Use what the owners manual says.

I think back in 2000 Toyota wasn't calling out T-IV, but I could be wrong. Certainly nothing wrong with using synthetic ATF.

I'm sure it's an AW. But you confirmed as I said, Dexron III Mobil 1 ATF is fine.
You could just disconnect the battery for a few hours and then drive the car for a week or two - either way if the car adapts you should feel it.

Thanks for all of the replies. I didn't do a complete flush, but I dropped the pan and performed a couple of drains and refills over the course of a few hundred miles with the M1 to replace as much as I could. Overall, ran about 10 quarts through until I buttoned it up for good, at least for this maintenance interval. Good to hear of other's experiences after the change to M1.

Amsoil Universal ATF and Redline C+ are both recommended for ATF+4.
M1 can be used in place of ATF+4 with a fluid convertor.
Concerning the transfer case, it depends on which one you have. Certain x-cases use slipping clutches and you have to be very picky with the fluid. AWD and automatic 4wd units are the ones to worry about.
Driver selectable old school(part-time mechanical) x-cases that use ATF aren't going to care if it is ATF+4 or not!

Mobil 1 ATF is now a multi-vehicle formula that can be used in DEXIIIH, Mercon-V, Mercon, and ATF+4 apps.
