Yup.

I'm getting shipping quotes to get it the 30 miles or so home, because how can I drive with no plates![]()

You can just put a plate on it to tow it home, you can say it just stopped working on the return trip. You can use it for a "friend" and it is "road side", tow truck drivers usually don't care as long as the id and the membership matches. You can only use it 4x a year anyways, it is not like a massive abuse to AAA.I have AAA Premier
I didn't think they'd tow a vehicle with no plates that isn't registered to me
They only help with roadside assistance, not people buying cars?
But I wound up driving it home, so it wasn't a big issue
I'm thinking about itChange your transmission fluid, more than once!
I got my Camry for two D&Fs and she's amazing now, but wasn't bad before.
The idea of "the clutch silt holding it together" is an old wive's tale.
I’d drive that baby home without plates. Just have it insured.
The filter on my camry's just a rock catcher.I'm thinking about it
My father's old fashioned, and he ran a transmission shop in the 80s, and discouraged me from doing it
It's got a slight whine in first, but all 4 gears are present and correct
My Toyota parts man told me he'd sell me WS for $10 a qt
So after a filter/gasket, crush washer and fluid, it'd be $100 or so to fully service it
With 281k on it, there's no evidence or history of it ever being serviced
Good call on eBay, it's the same aluminum crush washer that my Camry usesThe filter on my camry's just a rock catcher.
I did the gasket, but bought the wrong one... there are a couple different 4 speed trannies around.
Got a 10-pack of aluminum crush washers from ebay, good, because I did the diff drain and fill plugs as well.
You need a 10mm allen for the drain plug. Just doing one drain & fill would be under 3 quarts.
Rockauto has Aisin WS fluid for $7 last I looked.
I've heard the rule for automatic transmissions is "change the transmission fluid every 60,000 miles or don't touch it".I'm thinking about it
