ALS, I think you misinterpreted my reply. A person in an earlier reply at this post basically said that Americans fought against French, British, and Mexican forces who were occupying various parts of what is today the USA. But the 13 original states were a British colony, the USA bought land from the French in the Louisiana Purchase, and many of the 'Texans' who fought against Mexico at the Alamo were actually Mexican citizens at the time-Texas was a part of Mexico. They rebelled against Mexico and won. Texas nearly became a country all its own (the 'Lone Star State'). But the people decided to become part of the USA.
The person in the earlier post was saying that Americans occupied by the British, French, and Mexicans did the same things as Iraqis in Iraq occupied by the USA. But the British in the original colonies were not occupying the colonies-it was a British colony until after the successful Revolutionary War. The French sold land to the USA and left after the sale. Trying to defend or justify what Iraqis did in Iraq recently by saying that Americans did the same to British, French, and Mexican people is silly. We are talking about different circumstances, different times in history, and at the times in question the British, French, and Mexicans were not occupying. And the USA BOUGHT a lot of land from the French.
I can hardly wait for the USA to be able to leave Iraq. It can't come a day too soon for me. I hope that Iraq becomes a democracy rather then a radical Islamic state.
