Are there any other particles captured by filter or drain plug magnets other than Fe?

Do Fe/iron particles in an engine produce any more or less wear compared to other particles listed on a used oil analysis? Does removing Fe improve engine longevity at any measurable rate?

Won't take bismuth out of your oil, that's for sure.

Magnets don't actually stop Fe wear... whatever engine parts are spitting out Fe will keep doing so. It just stops those particles from circulating through your engine and possibly doing additional harm.

I don't run magnets (had one in my Silverado but took it out) and my used oil analysis in MANY engines all have low single digit Iron. (unless I was running a oil known for high Iron)

I do not think they do that much. The filter catches the stuff (if there is any) and engines seem to last a long time.

My 1/50 of a dollar...

You need to know the source of the Fe and size of the iron particles to really pin point it down.

So would increased Fe mean increased wear in most cases?

Would swiping a drain plug magnet across a cloth and comparing Fe amounts between previous samples be conclusive in comparing wear between different oils?

According to a member on here, one report showing high Fe had less Fe on the magnet than an oil that showed lower Fe wear on a spectrographic report.

Maybe it's the magnet disintegrating in the oil.....
