So it seems that BITOG is rubbing off on me...

I just went to the dealer 45 miles away and bought 10 OEM filters and drain plug gaskets (on top of my first purchase of 3)... That makes 12 OEM's now (one in use). Why? because they were a good price with my shop discount (4.41 each). It far and away beats my price on a WIX and is of comparable or better quality. I figure that my filter stash should do for about 60k miles. Now I just need to stock on filters for the wife's car and oil...

Wrapped in plastic helps ... but it's humid in Iowa, so it's best to store them inside where it might be dryer. Filters can get surface rust on inside surfaces if exposed to high humidity for too long.

I put my filters in zip-lock bags if I'm storing them for more than 6 months.

And cardboard can absorb moisture if in high humidity environments.

Hmmm... Good point. I'll do that. I'm sure the wife will think I'm nuts, but fortunately pretty much all the BITOGer's will understand. You're right... It's humid as all [censored] right now... It's just ridiculous...

you can also get them at Kia dealership if they are the same as the one on hyundai accent, Only thing i dont use are those O rings, i found some that are metal o-ring but with rubber insert for 13 cents more.

enjoy that hyundai :)

After seeing these pics, hearing claims from others on how well built they were, reading the TSB from Hyundai and cutting a WIX open myself for this application. Really they're both great filters, but the WIX has less media in it due to the shorter height. The cans are the same height, but the media is just shorter.

That's because the end plate bypass valve assy that WIX uses takes up some length in the can, so the media has to be shorter if the can remains the same length.

Normally I would sacrifice a new one, but I can be a bit obsessive about my stash of goodies... I mean I only have 12 right now.

Would a used one from when I change my oil suffice?

Sure, I'd have a tough time cutting open a perfectly good filter to take one for team. Umm wait, unless it was a free orange can, but then combining it with term 'perfectly good' might be an oxymoron.

Besides, here's a recently posted thread with Hyundai filter pics and I'll bet it's the same/very similar.

Edit: LOL, Obviously didn't see where the OP posted the same linked thread.

I'm thinking I may do the same for the Corolla's, stash up on filters from the dealer.

Not for the Fusion though; as Walmart carries the MC filters for cheaper than the dealer(even w/ an account)

That's one heck of a deal... there certainly isn't anything better in the price range based on the sliced open filters I've seen here... and that is before your discount. This combined with the TSB about aftermarket filters causing noise is yet another reason to stay OEM here.

I paid about $7 for one at the Kia dealer. Don't see any reason to use anything else unless these filters drop in quality... and it seems like they are only getting better with time.

I honestly think they sell these for a decent price to stop people from using cheaper filters, especially with the long warranty. Last time I checked, Fram costs just as much for less quality.

Be careful if you decide to cut one open! I understand someone that tried cutting one open on this forum ended up with a cut hand.
