since Pennzoil owns Quaker State if Pennz dino was the same as QS and this is what I got back.

Thank you for your interest in our products.
Although some of the motor oils come very close to being the same due
to the high quality of our components, we still make every effort to
maintain differences between these brands, primarily in the additive
packages used.
Sincerely
Product Technical Service

Maybe the base oils are the same with different add packs?

They aren't. Johnny has stated many times that QS is group II base with an 'Oronite' (I think) add pack, and PZ is group II+, OR a group II/III blend with a Lubrizol add-pack.

They are actually quite different oils....

Close:

Pennzoil YB = Group II+ base with an Infineum/Afton additive package.

QS Green = Group II base with a Lubrizoil additive package.

I find it interesting that they use a better additive package with a "lesser" base oil oil.

How does the QS Dino compare to Castrol GTX? We have both on sale at the local Walmart, and I'm having a hard time deciding which one to get. Castrol is priced just a tad cheaper then QS.

It's good to see both oils have improved. In the 60s both were sluggers. I used Q State in a 64 Valient 2000 OCI and after 45,000 miles had to scoop out the sludge with a spoon.
