Snow blower season

Just put my 6’ blower on my tractor today. Topped the gear box off, greased the 20 fittings, waxed the chain and hooked up the hydraulic hoses, function checker her and was all good. Hope we don’t need it soon.

I need to get my little Briggs single stage out… haven’t started it since May or June and it’s been sitting with un-stabilized E10 gas 😉

Yeah I just did a tune-up on a neighbor's snowblower this weekend. His had gas of similar age, and when I drained it out, it looked like orange juice.

Got my mid '90's MTD 8hp w/Tecumseh out of the shed and into the garage up at my ADK lake effect zone camp. Cranked right up as it was put away the BITOG way. It gets real use up here vs my Ariens in NJ. In its life, got used 20 yrs ago, its had belts, friction drive wheel, a couple shear pins and a new OEM carb when I first got it. My Ariens is a superior machine but heavy. The MTD is a lighter machine but what I have to clear at camp the MTD is way more maneuverable and easier to use when snow depth is spark plug high.
Ariens wakeup and plow going onto the wheeler will happen after Thanksgiving.

I have 2 snow blowers. The newer one is a single stage Toro 2 cycle built in 1992. Was given to me for free. Previous owner couldn't keep the carb clean. Starts after 2 pulls. The second one is a Montgomery Ward's 2 stage built by Gilson with a 7hp B&S engine. Future father inlaw bought it in 1966. Many years later as he aged he decided to buy a smaller one. So I got it for a buck. He would have given it to me but in case his son asked about it he could say he sold it to me. This one has sat for the last 3 years, but with N. Dakota getting a couple of feet of snow which is one state west of me I figured I better see if it would start. So first gave it a real slow pull and than a quicker one and half way through the pull it started. Doesn't use any oil and whatever 5W20 oil I have is what I use for it. Sorry no pictures.

I managed to score a clearance Honda HS720 about 3 years ago for $450. Single stage with a 20" clearing path and has the 190cc engine. Was a heck of a good deal and has been problem free and plenty of power for my needs. I suspect that it will last many years longer than my desire to clear my own snow.

Fired my plow guy and picked up this Ariens 28" Deluxe SHO in August, for my 400 foot driveway. I got tired of torn up grass, huge snow banks, and poorly timed plowing. Bought from local dealer. Cool place, they do ccw permit classes at the store on weekends.
I bought this blower in 2015. Great piece. Starts so well that I don't even bother with the electric starter.

We've gotten some pretty decent snows for our area and this thing just doesn't care. Chugs on through.

Use non Top Tier 90 w/o E for the mowers and snow blowers . Figure better than leaving gas w/E10 in gas tanks / carbs for long period of time ( 6 or 7 months ) . Has worked so far .

Pulled it out to get ready for season no oil change this year as it has about 2hrs on it only from last year. One yank the Briggs runs like new only ever had Vpracing C9 in it since new I never worry about fuel quality.
Machine absolutely loves the deep snow and heavy wet wet.

Heated grips electric chute control on both ends.

Last year I got my old Murray 5 hp 24 inch mower all prepped and ready to go. I used it once for a 8 inch snowfall. The rest of winter was 4-5 inch dusting's, which was faster and easier to shovel or let melt on it's own. We don't get the same snowfalls like we used to in the last 20 years. I've been thinking about selling the blower and just paying someone. Plus, I could use the extra space in the garage.,,

Guess I need to get this worthless thing out of the shed and into the garage here soon...

Unless it's all powdery snow it's pretty darn useless. But, the advantage I have this year is my new driveway is pretty much all flat and doesn't have that steep section my old place did. That and no more sidewalks!

Look up "snowblower impeller kit" on youtube, it is a worthwhile mod for those MTD machines.
