Smoothest engine oil in your opinion?

just want to see what oil you believe makes your engine run the smoothest. is there a certain additive that makes an engine run smoother?

I love Valvoline Synpower, but I have to admit the Redline sounds smoother when I ran it.

Most differences in audible smoothness are due to viscosity. Thicker oils will be quieter than thin ones. This is most noticeable in cars with forged pistons. They expand more than cast pistons so they require more clearance. Thicker oil drastically quiets piston slap, but audible piston slap is rarely a concern.

In my motorcycle where I can feel the oil when I shift, Royal Purple is the smoothest and requires the least effort. German castrol was also quite good.

I've never noticed a difference in smoothness among all of the brands I tried, until I tried Edge. It seems very smooth/quiet when it reaches operating temperature when compared to the Syntec Blend and other oils I've used before this. When it's cold and warming up though, it sounds the same as everything else I've used. The smoothness when it's warm could also just be in my head... I'll see how it feels when I use Mobil 1 on my next fill.

Depends on the car, but GC sounds awesome in a VQ Nissan.

In my Saturn, it does not really change no matter what.

I think "engine smoothness" and oil choice is all related to the persons "butt dyno"....meaning I don't buy it.

I`d say its a toss up between Royal Purple and Pennzoil conventional.

My 2.2 really seems to like the 5w30 PP, once it's warmed up. The 10W-40 Maxlife was a bit rougher, we'll see how it likes the 5w30 version..

The expedition runs good on the MC 5W-20, but it seemed to run a little smoother on the Bulk Pennzoil Conventional 5w20.

I just wanted to add that in the 3.1 Malibu I maintain, I've noticed zero difference between any of the oils I've tried in terms of noise, smoothness or quieting the piston slap. I've tried Mobil Clean 5000, Valvoline, Valvoline MaxLife, Havoline Synthetic, Castrol GTX, Trop Artic and Q Horsepower.

I believe it. It's like my car.. My timing chain is kinda loud (not bad, but audible at idle with the hood open) and you can't get the noise to go away with oil. It's probably the same because piston slap is not gonna go away with the use of different oils.

When an engine is in proper tune with no wearing parts or issues, I'm sure one oil to the next might be able to make an audible difference if it approves or disapproves an oil.

Redline Oils in any grade you select when compared to their competition. Prior to the change in their additive chemistry in their 5W40 I would have chosen it as the best. Mobil 1 040 is preety good as is the Mobil 1 15W50 and generally the higher the level of additives or the higher the HTHS the quieter and smoother it will sound and feel when compared to another. I added extra additives to GC 0W30 which was noisy as could be compared to Mobil 1R0W30 and Redline 5W40.......As the car was running I added some oil additive to the GC and as I added it slowly I could actually hear the engine quite down.

You can see by the above answers, that there is no smoothest oil. It's all perception.
