Motorcraft 5w20
Castrol GTX 5w30 conventional
Valvoline 5w30 conventional
Pennzoil 5w30 conventional

I only use one oil in all my cars that take conventional...

Castrol GTX 10w30. Maybe 5w30 in the winter. That's just my favorite conventional oil.

I wonder if Boxcartommie and I agree on the more robust ester oils like Redline and Motul because we drive the mountain passes in Colorado.

I think our driving environment here in Colorado gives the oil a good workout.

Same driving here in Utah with the exception of higher temps in the summer. 90s to 100s during the months of May thru Aug.

Sadly, already had almost a week of high 80s - low 90s in northern Utah and 100s plus in southern..

I've had excellent used oil analysis with Pennzoil conventional, Chevron and Castrol GTX.

Most important, long engine life with above and Valovine, Halvoline and QS.

Got to love the mountain passes and normal elevation of 4700 feet here.

Valvoline 5w30 Conventional
Valvoline MaxLife 10w30 Synthetic Blend
Pennzoil Platinum 5w30
Havoline Synthetic 5w30
Quaker State Peak Performance 5w30

Schaeffer, Amsoil and Synergyn are on my Dream List.

Outside of that, I've adopted SOPUS products lately...ie... Pennzoil, Quaker State and Shell. They appear to be the best looking/best buy over at the UOA board. It's a no-brainer when you combine their price with their wear results.

my favorite oils and what I use are different
If money was no option.. probably Redline.

I am a value kinda person so my favorite oil is whatever
syn oil I can get for around 1$/qt

All of them. They're all good, and I would use any that I had a chance to......

...what's that? I HAVE to pick just one or two? Oh, OK - Castrol GTX and Pennzoil.

I used to live in SLC and ski Snowbird / Alta and once in a while at the other resorts.

The canyon roads in Utah and Parley's on I-80 provide a good workout, as does the summer heat.

So your point about getting good results with less expensive and more conventional oils is always valuable. You remind me that even the least expensive options provide great lubrication.

I'm up at 8100 feet driving over 11000 foot passes with three long 7% grades on the way to and from Denver at 5200 feet. I think Parley's on I-80 is longer but 6% grade.

We may see more cold weather and sub zero starts in the mountains, but I'm sure you'll see more days with 100 degrees and higher.

Both areas will challenge an oil's performance.

I guess either approach to choosing an oil will work... but I'm still going lean towards the premium synthetics.

Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 and 5w30 when it is BOGOF at Advance Auto Parts. Good price, no rebate! Good for the pickups, and for the snowblower.

For the Goldwing, it *only* gets AMSOIL MCF 10w-40.

For the small engines (Garden tractors and tillers), it is Shell Rotella T 15w40 (gallon jugs).

For the jetskis and other 2 cycle equipment, I use Pennzoil Marine Synthetic Blend (gallon jugs).

Vavloline Maxlife....now
5qt jug sells for $11.97 at China-Mart. The add pack is excellent...upper end of scale on Calcium and moly and is 12-22% PAO... Tallpaul is rubbing off on me.
I'm beginning to think I would use this stuff no matter the age of my vehicle.
