Smallest spin-on bypass?

What's the smallest, commonly available, spin-on bypass filter? I'm not interested in the EaBPs, but rather the Fleetguard/Baldwin/Wix alternatives.

I'm thinking I'm dropping the GCF because of the shear volume it holds...getting old changing 1.5 gallons of oil in a normal sump that holds 3 gallons (4.5 with the GCF)...

I may actually drop my bypass altogether, and revert back to 5k OCIs and dino oil.
 
do ou take used oil smaples? it may help extend your filter swaps and having to add so much oil.
I use bypass filters and the seem to last about 40/50,000 miles.

I do take UOAs once in a while, but that in itself is also counterproductive if your intent is to save money in the long run...

My GFC has a 10k FCI, that's the reason I change on 10k intervals...

what are the reusults of the oil sample? under many situations the oil is still good for continued use, but still many change anyway.
that makes no sense to me.
 
Until now, oil results looked good...

But I have since changed from that oil, which was sort of working, to Schaeffers S9000 CJ-4, which I was going to pull a sample of tonight. It would be my first opportunity to see how it was performing.

I dont know what you actually want from your lube system but here is My first sample with bypass and 5w30 oil with 5 years service and no change http://www.voogru.com/images/oil2.jpg

I think the smallest from Wix would be in the FL1A size. Donaldson appears to have some smaller ..but you may find a thread that you don't like.

This looks interesting, but the beta ratio of the Wix is 2/10=19/31, nominal 5u...which doesn't make any sense at all to me...how can you have a 50% rating of 19u and call it nominal at 5u???

Any idea on the rating of that Donaldson??
 
I can't tell you what the Donaldson rating is. If it was a hydraulic filter, it would probably be listed.

The way you get the 5um nominal is at the single pass test at (probably - my speculation) the 1.75gpm flow rate. The multipass test is conducted under the ISO or SAE protocol which probably has a much higher flow rate somewhere in there.

If I managed the attribute search correctly, there is no SYNTEQ bypass filters. The Donaldson Endurance line appears to be full flows. Again, I could have blown the search.
 
The other trick is just go synthetic. some of the Synthetic or Endurance filters are better than many bypass filters. Endurance are typically synthetic plus time capsule additives and things for longer drains.
