I think the larger the sump, the more worthwhile it is...the more costly it is to change oil (say on an OTR truck, or even my 5.9L Cummins), the more beneficial (read: cost savings) it is keeping that oil in the sump.
For a car with a 5 quart sump...ehh, its the "I have it" factor. But for a truck with 12 gallons of oil (or more) in the sump...12 gallons is $$$. With my CGF, I have 4.5 gallons of oil...even 3-gallons isn't cheap.
