Why is it there are no small pickups that get over 30 m.p.g. ? Be it hybrid or not for under $19,000. Would be nice to have a 1.5 ltr. or 1.8 ltr. pickup that's non or hybrid for those small jobs of hauling away debri or just carrying small appliances , etc.. Would you buy one if available ? We would in the

of an eye .

Like a CRV/Escape/Rav4 based pickup? Or one based on the Ford Transit?

Makes a lot of sense. But, I'd still rather have a compact SUV and a trailer.

There are several, just not in the US.

Yep, several existing lil pickups will do 30mpg.

But the thing is, if you get a trailer hitch on your car you can haul at least the capacity of the pickup bed, plus half the towing capacity of the little pickup.

My dad bought a beautiful 4x8' aluminum trailer for about $1400, and can pull it with just about any car, up to 3000lb payload.

Sounds a lot like the old diesel Toyota & Ford small pickups-although those were DOGS to drive (no turbo)-IMHO part of the reason for no hybrid nor diesel small p/us is too much $$$ to purchase-most buyers of small pickups are looking for the cheapest new truck they can find!

Hybrid pickup with over 30 mpg is very doable, but not for under $19,000. I think that, and "market demands" (

according to the automakers) are really the only things preventing us from getting them.

I think diesel is the way forward not hybrid. For pickups the torque helps and the fuel economy is 40% better, with 20% of that coming from more energy in diesel and 20% from the engine efficiency.

There would be a noticeable impact on world oil prices and reserves if we all moved to diesel

How about this: for 23K get a 2011 Mustang V6--pull 1000lb trailer and get 31mpg on the highway AND look cool doing it!

Enough with the pointless, wasteful little tiny pickups already. This aint Italy, people.

If you care about the environment you will buy a cute little trailer to tow with your car and loan to your friends so they can save gas and other resources, too.

However if the idea of a little hybrid pickup gives you warm fuzzies the way beanie babies did ten years ago, I guess I understand.

Current delivery schedule is for the end of the year (schedule as been delayed 3 or 4 times). I've seen a test vehicle on the road, so they should be getting close.

take care.

The politicians should have the guts to start increasing gas prices to European levels steadily over a 5 year period (offseting it with lower taxes on lower earners). This will get all these idiots away from driving cars bigger than needed and being a menace to the rest of us both on the road and environmentally.

Some of us live in apartments/condos and we have no space for a trailer. I do not need a V8 to commute, but I would love to have a small truck that doubles as a DD.

I sold my 05 Tacoma 4 door TRD Off-Road and went to a 4 door car, because of Tacoma's horrendous gas mileage. I would have loved a smaller pick-up truck. Toyota has a D4D diesel in the rest of the world that gets 30 MPG in town, just not here.

GM re-badged Isuzu world truck and sold it here as Colorado/canyon and yanked a wonderful 4 cyl Isuzu diesel engine out of it in the process.

Since I can not find a truck I want with a gas mileage I want, I am settling for the next best thing--a nice station wagon, Hyundai Elantra Touring. Better MPG than a CUV or SUV, and I can put 8' long lumber in it.

When I lived in an apartment, I had a hitch on my car. If I needed a trailer, uHaul hooked me up.

I think I used a trailer 4 times over the course of several years of apartment living.

A real man have enough manhood that doesn't need to worry about what he is driving.

Wow...Not everyone lives in the City. I live on an Acre and 1/4 and would be lost without my Truck. I actually use mine for hauling, getting dirt, home imporvemtments and this

Lots of folks need them to work and support their lively hood.

Wow, just wow.
Europe awaits, last time I checked this is America and freedom of choice is a big part of living here. Even if you don't agree with someone else's decisions.

The 2.3L ranger/mazda clone is a great truck, and low mileage examples only a few years old can be had for 6-8 grand..

I have been looking for a good deal on one..
