SM PU ok for winter?

My next oil change will be SN Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20 with a Bosch Distance plus.

I live in NYC, where it never really goes below 0 degrees Farenheit. However, I will be doing short trips, 5 miles which takes about 15 minutes. (work). might have longer trips on days off.

Think it should be good?

Should I do anything different because of these short trips?

Are you worried because it's SM rated instead of SN? SN just came out didn't it?

You are kidding right? SM PU is the only PU there is and it is a great oil, can easily take the cold.

Short trips really eat up the additive pack in a hurry. A 5 mile trip will not get the oil up to operating temperature to burn off the water and fuel dilution. If it were me, I'd be using conventional or syn blend 5W20 and changing it according tho the manufacturer's severe service recommendation.

If it's for your Mustang, use Motorcraft 5W20 and for your Saturn, Pennzoil conventional.

People have used worse oils in worse climates and their vehicles still run fine.

PU is awesome. No worries especially with the Bosch filter. Thats a great combo.

I agree, I was just at my Wal-Mart yesterday, They actually had a stock of PU,and it was all SM. This may sound a little strange, but I have this oil in my RX right now. Its been in it for around 2200 miles, and my millage has picked up from 18mpg to almost 20mpg? I know, I know, it could be other things happening here, but I think this oil is cleaning the [censored] out of my motor! When I bought the RX back in 09, it had 59,000 miles on it. The lady that bought it new had it serviced regularly at Lexus. I looked up the records, and she would go between 5 and 7,000 miles on the oil change. A quick history of the 3MZ-FE motor, it is the first cousin to the 1MZ-FE motor, which is a cavity creep sludge monster engine. I noticed when I pulled the dip stick out, it had the backed on oil residue on the stick. I do believe that at the very least this motor was heavily varnished, to possibly slight sludge. jmo. So the PU is more than likely cleaning this baby out, and in turn increasing my mpg`s.

I wasn't worried about the sm, i was wondering if i should have maybe used a 0w-20. thanks!
