Siracha shortages again, oh no! :)

Mine and my kids favorite is the Sambal Oelek. The Siracha is OK, but the paste gets used a lot in my house.

I used to use Tapatio on pizza
Cholula is what many places I go have for the eggs etc.
Texas Pete is OK.
My kids got some Hell's Kitchen sauces which I'm using up. OK but Sambal is still our choice.

Has anyone tried the Underwood Sambal as compared to the Huy Fung version? I'm out on Long Island so would need to mail order from what I see.

(y) I've always got a jar of Sambal Oelek in the fridge. I add it to stir fry dishes all the time. Good stuff. I like Tapatio, too, but currently have a bottle of Valentina I'm using that is about as good.

Totally random, but I had this stain from Huy Fong sriracha on cotton fabric. Saw a big dried crusty spot and two tiny spots on a white area of otherwise printed fabric. I didn't notice it earlier but I'm guessing the tip was clogged and it sprayed some around in weird directions, including a spot I noticed on the counter. Tried all manner of things including Shout gel (might have been old) and then washing it immediately in cold water. The stain was still there noticeable on the white area, although the stain on the dyed area of the print was hard to see. Then tried baking soda, Resolve (formerly Spray & Wash) and it didn't seem to come out.

But then I heard that maybe sunlight would break down the color. Just hung it out to dry and made sure that it would be in a sunny spot. Then got back to it and the stain is gone. I've noticed that hot sauce tends to change color if it's left too long in light so I usually put it away in a cabinet. But I guess full-on bright UV will completely break down the color.

  • Harness the power of the sun. Seriously, did you know that sunlight has <amazing> stain-fighting powers? Skip the dryer until you are 100% sure that stain is gone. In the meantime, hang or lay it in the sunniest spot you can find and then pat yourself on the back for being such a nature-loving eco warrior.
Probably works best if it's natural, since there are quite a few hot sauces (like El Yucateco) that have food dyes.
