Vai is pretty good but my son is better!!!

Steve Vai also played in the movie Crossroads, one of my all time favorite movies... even though the somewhat cheesy Karate Kid "finger" played the guitar while Steve Vai played the Karate Kid's role, and his own...

I wish so much I could play the guitar ( not enough to sell my soul LOL) but I have no musical talent whatsoever !! It almost makes me sad when watching people who can play with true skill.

Jerry Douglas. Sounds like three people playing. He uses his guitar top like a drum while playing the guitar. You have to see it in person to believe it is only one person.

Technically, Vai is beyond Satriani but in terms of writing Satch is untouchable.

I'll give you that, Buster. But ya know what? I find myself growing tired of Satch and Vai lately, only being able to listen in small doses. However, I could listen to Van Halen's self-titled and 1984 ALL DAY!!!

I am starting to feel more and more that Eddie is the true guitar king. Not only in all of the new things he did, but in terms of sheer listening pleasure, groovability, and energy. Tracks like "I'm The One," "Bottoms Up," and "Top Jimmy" really rock my world.

Speed demons and making funny noises on guitar does nothing for me.

Simple, but meaningful writing and playing which evokes emotions (David Gilmour) is what I like...

The funny noises from a bit before 3:20 on this song (with or without vid), have been able to send my head soaring for decades

Same as around 3:20 in this

I love Classical Gas as an immense piece of work, Tears of the Dragon has a good riff, but sometimes an instrument, or a voice can provide an incredible high...edit CG and TofAD take me for a very nice ride, but don't give me the high of the two linked vids....Ryme of the Ancient Mariner has another ride/story that Odysseus would be proud of...but no high.

If drugs can beat those two, then I don't want to go within a mile of them

Went to a pub last weekend and the live band for the night turned out to be Jordan Cook. Great young local guitarist and great show, especially for a $5 cover! I couldn't find any footage of him playing the drums and guitar simultaneously (very cool), but here's a small sample of his talent:

+1,000 to this. I can listen to VH all day, and never tire of it.

Also, listen to the solo in M-J's 'Beat It' - that is INSANE!!!
