With many individuals who practice minimal hygiene precautions. And I generally don’t have access to soap until I am in my office or home.
That's tough. Maybe rubber gloves, no matter what people think.

Hand sanitizers are useless against Norovirus…
Hand and sanitizers are not a catch-all solution and most people abuse them as such.

Probably best to bring your own food and utensils.

Sue and I have one of the two. Cough is driving us nuts. My hacking has gotten so brutal I'm literally seeing stars when I cough. Been going on for 10 days now.

Scott
My wife has the cough. Non-productive, viral infection without secondary infection. I told her either you take a cough suppressant or I end up on death row and the cats and the dog get everything.

I just wrapped up Norovirus myself and tucked in my wife for her turn. I’m hoping it skips the kids. We are cleaning like crazy with Lysol wipes.

I got a bad cold in October that ended up being the worst cough I have had in years, all the way until Thanksgiving. 2024 ended rough and 2025 has started rough!

Probably Norovirus. 24 hours of hell. Stuff seems to be going around in our area. Finally started eating some fruit (electrolytes)
I had a few weeks directly before Christmas where I had a water faucet but none of the antihistamines would dry it up, ended up eating raw garlic 3 times a day and taking the herbal C stuff and then it dried up and wouldn’t cough up.

Thankfully it finally stopped on its own

Influenza A - HUGE outbreak for over a month now in So Cal. Got my dad, and of course spread instantly at the care home, which irritates me.

It is virtually impossible hard to stop that from happening in a place like that. .

Yes. Reality

They got COVID at home. Lived

Six months later both got flu A at their new senior care home. Dad died. Mom almost better.

I’m just frustrated

Blessed that I’ve have not been sick since I got Covid in June. Then I never had any respiratory symptoms. I was however constipated 6-7 days. Not pleasant and never even knew that was a symptom. It also messed with my thinking a little. Pretty odd

This year may go badly. Avian flu is a couple mutations away from jumping to humans. If you think SARS-CoV-2 was bad, do I have bad new for you. Even if avian flu doesn't make the jump this year, it eventually will. That reminds me, 28 Years Later will be released this year. Do you prefer Captain Trips or flesh-eating zombies?

So what's the scenario when the jump happens? Is it game over for humanity or do you think this is something that will weaken overtime?

I'm not Madame Zelda.

Is it game over for humanity
That's a given and only a matter of time.

or do you think this is something that will weaken overtime?
In constant motion the future is - or whatever Yoda said. Pathogens aim to propagate. Killing the host is not the goal but some pathogens don't know that. imagine a slow-spreading variant with long incubation period but also with a high mortality rate. That would be a real problem. But even an aggressively spreading beauty like ebola may not burn itself out by killing everyone so quickly they can't spread the virus any longer. The world has become rather small with extreme mobility. Evolution does not stop and pathogens evolve very quickly. Risky business.
