I don't know how it took me so long to find the 60 page Kreen Thread from 2010 bit I did.

And I'm thinking that I might want to try Kreen for my piston-oil-drain-hole-coked oil burning 2008 Scion xB 2AZ-FE which doesn't qualify for the "free pistons with improved oil drain holes" service bulletin. She burns a slightly varying amount of about a quart every 1,000-1,200 miles. Anecdotally, it eats slightly more rapidly later in an OCI it "seems". I've never dared to go a whole OCI just letting it "eat and eat" for the whole 3k.

At this point I don't feel like any piston soaks which may dislodge the likely fairly good cake of piston top carbon (which on summer days is giving me some acceleration pinging on 87 octane)

So anyone think that doing the good old 3oz Kreen per quart of sump capacity is a good idea even if it is burning the Kreen with the oil as it digests it?

Nothing wrong with burning Kreen; their recommendation in-fact is half a can in the gas, and half a can in the oil.

I don't see why not. Even if you do burn a quart of oil in 1000-2000 miles, that means that even if all the kreen you put in burns off, it will still be in there for up to 1000-2000 miles. That's plenty of time for it to do its thing.

If yours is burning that much oil, you should qualify for new rings and/or short block under the oil consumption campaign.

I was close but no cigar in their assessment. My assessment is different after really knowing the car and it's consumption habits. I suspect a few factors came into play.

1. It burns somewhat less with a brand new oil change, which they require and oil change done by them immediately prior to sealing the access points for the test period. So the oil is at its most stout and unsheared.
2. They change the oil hot with almost no drain time and slap the plug back in like a regular "quick lane change".
3. They fill it with their guns which seem at most dealers to be over slightly
4. They check the oil test results when at hot hot level as I live about an hour away rom the dealer, thus I arrive fully hot.
5. Their check method is to simply add a quart, drive it hot and then check. Their "interpretation" is ... "We are sorry but you do not fully meet our criteria for consumption" "Within acceptable consumption".
6. And finally, quite frankly the service manager seems none too interested in having a guy tied up on a motor with 130k+ and all manner of rusty salty bolts for who knows how many hours.

The actuaries probably figured this all out very early on as failures were autopsied. That is, figured out the "fine line" where of 1,200 miles where the pass/fail can be a "close call" situation. Frustrating. LOL

No matter thought really, as of Oct. 2016 it fell out of primary tsb coverage into "secondary" which means I pay all labor and all related R&R parts and labor such as tensioner, belt, valve job, water pump, coolant.

Sad story, usually i hear good things about Toyota taking care of folks.

But back OT, Kreen is great stuff. It may or may not fix the issue but it never hurts to try.

remember it comes with a real warranty, they will refund your money if it doesn't make you smile...
