Hello everyone just want to say thanks for all the info I've read so far.

My vehicle 2005 Nissan Titan 44000 miles. No mods and used Amsoil 5-30 since first oil change. Driven mostly city 30 miles to work and back. I'm presently only 900 miles into the clean phase of ARX and Amsoil xl oil. The oil is now as dirty looking like when I would drop the oil at 7500 miles. I bought the vehicle new in 2006, so the vehicle could have been on the lot for about a year.

All my UAO have been coming back with high wear metals so I thought I would try ARX. Worst case it would make my oil better.

So the question: Do you recommend a UOA after clean and rinse or just wait until the process is complete and I go back to synthetic?

thanks

Do a UOA after clean/rinse cycle is over... UOA's aren't everything though... Just because you show high metal counts doesn't necessarily mean that your engine is wearing excessively, although most of the time it's true. I would use a Terry Dyson UOA and see what he has to say. He is very good at what he does and can direct you further!

I've been using Blackstone Labs for my previous samples. I'll check into the Dyson analysis. 100 bucks is a little steep.

thanks

Trust me, when you see the data, customer service he provides you will think it's cheap. He then considers you a customer for life and lets you ask as many questions as you need for FREE!

I used him once and I swore I would use nothing but his services after... I'm thoroughly impressed! Tell him I sent you and maybe he will give me a FREE sample kit or something!

Just kidding...

Terry's work is top notch. After your cleaning and rinse, you may want to consider running the maintenance dose. Most UOA's that I have seen show a reduction in wear metals running the 3 oz. maintenance dose.

So, for example, if Fe drops from 11 parts per million to 9 parts per million, then this massive reduction in wear makes you sleep better?

PS: Please, visualize one part per million.

If you feel like you need to do a UOA at anytime for any reason, go ahead and do it. I did a UOA on a ARX rinse phase to verify I didn't have a coolant leak and had peace of mind after I found out I didn't. Don't let anyone ever tell you it's a waist of money to do a UOA, ever.

If you have done UOA before ARX treatment maybe interesting to find out what it's cleaning by the changing chemical/metal profiles. You will probably have to wait quite a while for things to settle and return to normal,

I did a UOA on my second clean phase a few years back. I had used 15W40 dino HDEO (Tection Extra). The sample was taken at 2k miles. Wear metals weren't spectacularly high. Lead was 19 but that's not too horrible. Otherwise, the sample was fine with the exception of the fact that the viscosity had thinned to the thick side of a 30 weight.
