My nieces' KIa seems to be burning oil . The spec is 5w-20 . Would something else be better ?

You didn't mention car's color, how can we help without knowing the color? :ROFLMAO:
Seriously thou, what's the model/engine, how old and what total mileage, anything on service info?

I got two Kias (see my sig) and basically running xW-30 oil in both from start, both call for 5W-20. I change oil every 4k miles too.

Imho, if it burns oil, it's worth trying Valvoline Restore and Protect oil, say in 5W-30 and run it for 3k miles, then do same if it still burns.

If it were my vehicle I would try Valvoline Restore & Protect, depending on how dirty the engine is at least 2 short intervals 2-3K then go back up to 5K intervals after.

I know I didn't provide much info but I don't really have much . I also don't have unlimited access to the vehicle . My sister brought the car by the house today for me to replace a tail light bulb and while I had it I checked the oil . It was scary low and I know it is not leaking . It has about 70k miles on it .

Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-30 for 4 oil changes in a row. Might as well stick with this oil for good. It's not just for cleaning rings.

A lecture on the importance of checking the oil would be in order here. I check mine every Saturday and keep the level right at F on the stick.

Oil consumption with my 2018 Kia Soul Plus with the 2.0 GDI engine dropped after running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10W30, topped up with 2 bottles of Rislone. I'm now on my second OCI since running the PUP/Rislone fill and oil consumption has continued to improve slightly.

I do something similar. Check every Sunday morning, but on my one vehicle that is known to consume oil, I don't religiously keep it at Full like you do. I wait for it to get to the midpoint on the dipstick before topping off back to full. This allows me to track how many miles it takes, then I can get an idea if oil consumption is getting better, worse, or staying the same.

Dad's fault  and a trait I passed to my kids (y). Small notebook in glove box. We write down date/miles/gallons and any other things done to that car everytime we get gas. 99.99999% of the time it gets filled up, no $20 thing. I normally check all my cars at the gas station the same way each time. I know probably overkill and not needed that much but it's what I do.

slight variant to @dubber09 as most stations I go to don't have the part to keep nozzle flowing. I pull in, shut down, pull dipstick and wipe and leave it out. It allows oil to drip out of tube while fueling to make it easier to see. In my daughters '08 CRV there is no tube so it runs right through and the whole stick is covered in oil. Just a quick wipe and reinsert and it's still all over unless given a minute to drain some.

@nomas - definitely show them how to do it and when. Yes switch oil IMO to VRP. Ask them to write down and monitor for you. Maybe you can hook up for a piston soak. Daughter's new boyfriend was over, I checked everything and showed him. He was 2qts low in his Sonata. He never checked prior as would just bring in for oil changes. He's "paranoid" now and checks his oil and tire pressure before he comes over (y) . He also went a bought a new battery after I showed him his was testing bad.

@Sequoiasoon - are you concerned at all that it's not enough time to allow the oil to drain back into the sump and get an accurate reading? I've heard to wait at least 10 minutes after stopping the engine to check oil, but I usually give it an hour or more to make sure I don't get a false low reading.
